You made a beeline for the bed as soon as you got home. There was a trail of your shoes, your purse, your jacket and other articles of clothing on the floor that led to where you were now. On a normal day, it would’ve been sacrilegious to leave things on the floor. But today wasn’t a normal day. You had a piercing headache that wouldn’t go away. And no matter what medicine you took or how much water you drank or the food you ate, it persisted. 

So, even though it was the early afternoon and the sun was shining bright outside, you’d left work to head home at an attempt for peace and quiet. You’d sent Jongdae a quick text with only four words: “heading home. massive headache”. Normally, there would’ve been an emoticon or even a ‘hello’, but your body and your brain wouldn’t let you. 

The first thing you saw was Jongdae’s sweater on the bed. You peeled off your clothes in exchange for his sweater, which looked extra, extra large on you but also extra, extra comfy, and relished the comfort and his smell that only his sweater could provide you. You laid your head on the pillow, not even grabbing the blanket and closed your eyes. 

You thought you’d been dreaming. You blinked your eyes open to realize that things had changed. 

The curtains were drawn, the lights were off (you remember hastily turning them on earlier) in the bedroom and the blanket was over you. You were still in your half awake state, unsure of what was happening and why you were at home during the middle of the day. 

Your confusion only continued when you felt a soft kiss on your temple and a gentle laugh that you could immediately recognize. “Keep sleeping,” whispered Jongdae as he wrapped his arm around your waist, effectively pulling you closer to him and his warmth so that he could spoon you. 

You mumbled something unintelligible, your brain still slow and wanting nothing more than sleep. You felt his fingers link with yours, his thumb gently caressing the back of your hand as you felt another kiss on the back of your neck. You smiled. You could already feel your headache leaving and, yet, you didn’t want it to end just yet. 

Then, you’d heard humming, his voice soft and gentle as he lulled you back to sleep with another caress, another kiss and a quiet murmur of how much he loved you. 

“I love you too,” you murmured just loud enough for him to hear before you drifted off to sleep once more, your heart and your body soft yet full of love.

You were scared the first time you saw him. 

Not that he was scary. Of course not. He was far from it! But, what was a young man doing on your windowsill, knocking incessantly so much that you had to walk up to him to make him stop? 

You’d let out a gasp once you’d realized that there was actually a person there at the window. But then, he’d smiled. His eyes turned to crescents and even though it was nighttime, it was as if he’d magically brought the sunshine with him through that smile of his. So, there you were, completely entranced by him and his smile, then you opened your window. 

“You’re ridiculous!” you laughed one night. Your homework was long forgotten while the piles of books and papers laid still on your desk. Instead, you were both perched on the floor, puzzle pieces lain everywhere while he propped himself on his elbows, his stomach on the floor and attempted to concentrate. 

“Ridiculous?!” he repeated, eyebrows raising in confusion. “That’s such a big word, Y/N!” 

You shushed him for fear that someone might hear your new friend. “It means,” you started but he’d immediately cut you off with a finger to your lips and a wink. 

“I don’t need to know what it means,” he smirked. “That’ll be my word for you. Ridiculous.” 

“That’s ridi --.” 

“See?! It’s perfect! Trust me.” 

“Just try to sleep, Y/N,” he said, his voice soft. You had your blankets around you while you were in your bed, turned to the side as you faced the window. It was open, of course, so that he could come in. But now, he was seated on the floor, his back against your bed so that he could look up at you easily. 

“I don’t think I can,” you murmured softly in return, sniffling. You’d gotten in trouble with your parents. Your grades started slipping. ‘That’s not normal’, they’d said. ‘What are you hiding from us?’, they’d asked. For once, you were happy and it had nothing to do with expectations and, yet, they couldn’t understand. Except for him. 

He turned to look at you, resting his chin against the edge of your bed as your hand peeked out of the blankets. You gently placed his hand over yours, squeezing it. 

“I’ll be right here.” 

“I always wondered what it’d be like,” he murmured softly, still inches from your lips. 

He whined. He persisted. He dared you to do it. 

And, you let him. 

Your eyes fluttered open and he smiled softly. You could still feel his lips on yours. It was soft, gentle and cautious, nothing like him at all or how he’d been around you. It was as if he’d transformed from the first time you’d met him. 

You licked your lips, trying to find your words. “How is it?” you whispered, your eyes searching his. 

There was a glint of mischief underneath the softness and he replied, “Let’s do it again.” 

“Will you always love me?” he asked you one night. You glanced at the calendar, unknowingly. He asked you that question every year, on the day that you’d first met him. It’d be five years this year. It’d been five years since you’d known each other. And while the mischief, the playfulness and the fun was there, it was different and you both knew it. But you answered him like you did every year: “Always.” 

“Come with me,” he’d said, his hand outstretched. You took a ragged breath, looking at his hand then back at his face. He hadn’t aged a day and yet you have. 

“I can’t,” you answered, your voice wavering. You glanced at your desk. Your work was piling up. You had responsibilities. Your world changed but his didn’t. His heart remained steady and loving while he wished for everything to stay the same. 

“Come run away with me,” he pleaded once more, his smile now gone and replaced with urgency. “We’ll be happy and you won’t be -- .” 

“Where would we live? Where we would stay?” you stammered, your panic rising. “What would we do?” 

He paused, his hands reaching for your arms as he leaned his forehead on yours. “We’d love each other.” 

“Mommy, this man walked me home and gave me a lollipop!” cried your five year old daughter, her smile bright as she waved at you. Normally, you would’ve chastised her for talking to a stranger and for taking a treat. But all you could do was stare. 

His face was the same, his smile undeniable and his eyes still full of mischief. He held the hand of your daughter until she let go and ran into your arms. You were stunned until you felt your daughter hold onto your hand. 

“You have to be careful...” you started but faltered once you heard his low chuckle. 

You looked up at him and he simply smiled right back at you. “Have a great day,” he said slowly as if he’d meant to say something else. He looked down at your daughter and waved. “Don’t forget to have fun, alright, little one?” 

She nodded happily while you murmured softly, “Jongdae.” 

And just like that, he was gone.

Week One. 

You thought it was a way for the barista and the staff to keep track of drinks as they made them, those numbers on your coffee cups. You’d been too busy focusing on getting your coffee, getting out and back to whatever you were doing. You hardly stayed at the coffee shop the first week you were there. 

Week Two. 

Studying at the coffee shop was actually pretty nice if you could get the corner table. You were still seeing numbers on your coffee cups but you’d ignored them. For now. 

Week Three. 

“I don’t get it,” you said as you looked at your coffee cup while your friend shrugged. 

“Is it always the same number?” they asked. 

“No,” you answered, only realizing now that they were always different. 

“Maybe it’s a pattern? You should start writing it down.” 

Week Four. 

Ten numbers. Was someone playing a game with you? You wished you hadn’t thrown all of your coffee cups away so you could check. Were you going crazy? Didn’t matter though because you still went to go get coffee, anyway. 

Week Five.

You blinked. “What?” 

He smirked at you, glancing around before taking a seat across from you despite the fact that he worked at the coffee shop. 

“There’s no way for me to get your attention, is there?” he laughed softly. 

You knew him as the guy who gave you your coffee. The guy who greeted you so happily in the morning. The guy that knew your name and your order. But other than coffee and how your day went, your conversation with him stopped there. 

“The numbers,” he said, nodding at your coffee cup. “Have you figured it out?” 

“Oh!” you murmured, suddenly startled by the puzzle that’d been bugging you for weeks. Your shoulders sagged and you chuckled shyly. “No.” 

His lips curled into a smile and he leaned forward on the table. “What if I told you that I’d been trying to get you to notice me for weeks?” 

“But I do notice you! I mean, er...” your cheeks blushed by the realization that you were definitely charmed by the guy in front of you. Okay, so maybe, you didn’t come here only for the coffee. You liked seeing him at the beginning of the day. You liked how he greeted you, no matter what. 

He laughed, reaching over to grab your pen and your notebook, scribbling the numbers that you’ve stared at for weeks. 

It was, then, that you’d finally put two and two together. “That’s your...” 

“Number,” he said before pointing at your phone with the pen he was holding in his hand. 

“I-I, uh...” 

“If you don’t want to -- .” 

“I want to!” 

He bit his lip to hold back a smirk. “Ah.” 

“So,” you nodded, looking down at your notebook then back up at his smiling, expectant face that you know you couldn’t resist at all. 

“So,” he repeated. “You tell me when and where and it’s a date.”

You heard the door open and close faintly. Then, came the footsteps and the hushed whispers and the giggles. As much as you asked for quiet, you couldn’t help but smile. 

It’d been a stressful week, to say the least. Mornings started extra early, Daeul was extra fussy as ever and you had to put in extra hours at work. It was exhausting. But, you knew it wouldn’t stop there just because it was the weekend. You love your men, you really do, but Daeul was like a carbon copy of his father, just as happy and just as overly excited and just as loud about everything. 

So, once Jongdae noticed the deadpanned look in your eyes as you washed the dishes, he immediately picked up Daeul and suggested they go to the park so you can take a nap and the afternoon to yourself. 

You really tried, you did. But it always took a while for you to fall asleep. And now that you were finally getting there, they were back. 

“Shhh, shhh, Mom’s sleeping,” murmured Jongdae, putting a finger to his lips and Daeul nodded immediately, putting his hand over his mouth as if he just committed a grave sin. 

Jongdae sighed, looking around the living room. What could they possibly do that was quiet? 

“Tv!!” grinned Daeul happily, completely forgetting about what Jongdae had just said. Jongdae’s eyes widened as he snatched up his son and shook his head. 

You laughed softly, underneath the covers, imagining just how Jongdae was attempting to handle all of this. 

“How about cars, hmm?” asked Jongdae, grabbing some of Daeul’s toys and sitting down with him on the floor. 

“I love cars!” said Daeul, his eyes glistening with excitement and Jongdae couldn’t help but laugh his signature laugh. He immediately clasped his hand over his mouth just like what his son did minutes ago. 

Daeul gasped teasingly. “Quiet!” 

Jongdae pursed his lips, his eyes and lips turning into a smile. “Why don’t we --.” 

“Why don’t the both of you come and have a nap with me?” you smirked at the two of them as you leaned on the wall. Daeul’s face brightened as soon as he saw you, pushing himself off of the floor for a running hug. 

“Ah, Y/N, sorry, You’re awake! We’re really trying...” 

You laughed softly, picking up Daeul who hugged you happily. “It’s fine, just come to bed,” you smiled as you gave Jongdae your hand before leading your two men into the bedroom. 

You all laid down, with Jongdae on your side, letting you rest your head on his shoulder while Daeul squeezed in between the two of you. 

Yes, this was the solution. Because the only way to get them to be quiet was to also have them sleep. You smiled in satisfaction, feeling yourself drift off to sleep already. 

“This is nice,” murmured Jongdae, his eyes closed. 

“Shh, no talking.”

You saw him in the corner of your eye. You’d only caught a glimpse of his dark hair but you also managed to see the book cover of the book that you were looking for: The Little Prince. 

There’d been only one copy available at the library and once you’d found out that you can finally borrow it, you’d been duped by some dark haired man. You only saw his back but it was enough for you to bristle with irritation. You’d been waiting for weeks and he’d just sauntered up and got it. 

“Excuse me,” you asked the help desk assistant as you tried your best to keep your voice low in the library. The sullen teenager kept their eyes on the video game they were playing (on mute, of course) and grunted. 

“Could you maybe tell me who took that book? Just about a minute ago? The Little Prince?” 

“We don’t give out personal information, lady.” 

You scoffed, wondering why you had so much faith that they’d give it to you. So, you opted for the next best thing: you ran out of the library to see if you could find him. But he was gone. 

You almost caught him this time around. How was it that he was always grabbing the books that you were looking for?! 

You’d let out a small squeal once you saw him reach for A Wrinkle In Time and it took all it had in you not to run up to him and bear tackle him so that you could get your hands on that book. 

But you were immediately shushed by the Librarian (who was nearing 90 years old and even though silence was kept in the library, she had no qualms about giving you a lecture about how ‘noisy’ you were from that one squeak, so you were stuck) and he’d escaped again. 

You were ready to camp out at the library. He wasn’t about to oust you a third time. The copy of The Secret Garden was ready to be borrowed. You’d check this morning before you left for the library. You’d actually found it but you wanted to use it as bait. Because today, you were going to give him a peace of your mind. 

But you were frozen once you’d seen him walk up towards the book (of course, again!) and take it. Because this time, you saw his face. He glanced over at you, smiled and took the book as if it were nothing and then left. 

Damn, he was beautiful. 

“I’m so sorry,” you sighed as you held your sister’s hands in yours. “Give me ten more book titles and I promise, I swear, I’ll make it happen.” 

Your sister, the angel that she was, simply laughed softly. She was clothed in her hospital robes but despite the drab color of the walls, she smiled just as brightly as long as she saw you. 

“That’s okay, Y/N,” she said, squeezing your hand. “I’ve still been getting my stories.” 

You frowned in confusion. “But you said there were no books here...” 

As if on cue, the hospital door opened and he walked in. You stared momentarily in awe while your sister happily waved at him. The guy at the library. The one who kept taking those books you’ve been looking for. The one who smiled at you the other day and you were suddenly stunned. Him.

“Y/N, this is Jongdae,” said your sister as she tugged at your hand. He finally looked at you and chuckled softly. “I think I’ve...” 

Your eyes went wide. Did you embarrass yourself before you even got the chance? 

“Library?” you managed with curiosity. Your sister looked at the two of you and giggled. “Jongdae volunteers here and reads to us sometimes. Ah, Y/N, maybe that’s why you haven’t been finding those books! He always finds it first!” 

You remembered your initial irritation at this man. “Yah, I’ve always been waiting for those books!” 

At the same time, he started, “Oh! I have seen you before!” 

You both quieted and then laughed softly. 

“Y/N,” murmured your sister as she tugged at your hand. “Want to stay? Jongdae’s really good at reading out loud.” His lips turned into cheshire like smile that you found very endearing. He playfully cleared his throat and winked at your sister, who giggled. 

“Please, Y/N, we can enjoy it together this time!” 

Jongdae nodded, holding up the book he’d borrowed from the library this time. “I’ve got Harry Potter.” 

You pursed your lips but still found yourself smiling. 

“Okay, why not?” 

Note: I wasn’t sure how angsty I wanted to make this so I’ll let you all decide for yourselves why the little sister is in the hospital! Hope you all still enjoyed this! :)

You’d made him wait outside. As much as he wanted to sit next to you, hold your hand and make sure that you were okay, you had a feeling that this was something that you had to hear by yourself because goodness knows what Jongdae would do depending on how the results came out. 

So, he sat outside the doctor’s room. You were sure that he paced. He glanced at the window. He attempted to busy himself. He tried texting the other boys. He did all he could to calm his nerves because all he wanted to do was to be right next to you. 

You took the note from the doctor and nodded, careful to make mental notes of what you and Jongdae had to do next. 

As soon as you opened the door, he rushed to you, his eyes full of worry and you almost regretted your decision. You loved him but you had to be calm for this. So, you smiled and let him envelop you with his embrace as he breathed in a sigh and the scent of you. 

“I’ve only been gone for a half hour, Jongdae,” you laughed softly as he kissed your forehead. 

“It’s the longest half hour of my life,” he murmured, pulling back to gently kiss your lips. “So, how’s everything? I don’t understand why I can’t go inside because...” 

You smiled, shaking your head so he wouldn’t say anything else. “Everything’s fine,” you replied. “I’m not sick or anything.” 

His brows furrowed in confusion. “Are you sure? Because the other day, I swear, you had food poisoning or something! I’m never cooking that dish for you ever again because -- .” 

You interrupted him once more, taking one of his hands and placing it over your belly, staying quiet and wondering how long it’ll take for him to figure it out. 

His eyes followed yours and his hand as he gently held your flat stomach. Then, he gasped, eyes widening. 

“Pregnant! You’re pregnant!” he basically shouted for everyone to hear as he picked you up and twirled you around. 

“Oh, oh, wait, I have to be careful!” he laughed, his eyes crinkling and his volume increasing by the second. He immediately set you down as he gestured wildly in the air. This was exactly why he couldn’t go inside with you. He’d knock over a table. Or, the bookshelf. Or, the doctor from his excitement. 

“Someone’s excited,” you chuckled, unable to erase the smile off of your face either. Jongdae’s smile always made you smile. “You haven’t even heard the best part yet.” 

He froze, suddenly quiet. “...What?” 

You leaned in, playfully whispering in his ear. “We’re having twins!” 

He gasped once more, pulling you close and gently dipping you down for a kiss. As overdramatic as it was, you couldn’t help but get swept off of your feet because it was Jongdae, after all. 

You laughed softly as soon as he pulled you back up, his happy eyes never leaving yours. Your hand reached for his cheek and you couldn't help but love him even more. "I love you."

And those words had that ridiculous, magical effect they always had on him. For now, there was just that warm glow inside him that lit up his face and made him murmur happily, "I love you too." He pulled you close and kissed you once more, ignoring the chuckles of random passerbys who probably knew exactly why a couple would be kissing outside a doctor’s office.

Jongdae fastened the gloves on his hands and parked the car. He eyed the building from the driver seat and let out a small sigh. He shook his head, grabbing his phone and glancing at the clock once again. Why, he thought to himself, why do I always have to do everything myself?

He figured being the mafia boss gave him complete control. Of course, that was true, but there were times when you just had to do things yourself because no one else could do it better than you. 

Two weeks. 

It’d been two weeks since he’d ordered them to get you but none of them were able to get through. The first one he sent came back with a damaged arm. The next one could barely walk. The third one quit and threatened to expose the mafia. Of course, he swiftly took care of that. 

So, there he was, biding his time while he waited for just the right time to get out of the car, sneak into the building, turn off the power and fight whoever he needed to get to the top floor. 

He hadn’t told anyone he’d went by himself. He was too proud. And, besides, anyone else would slow him down, anyway. 

It only took him five minutes to get in the building. He’d already knocked down two security guards. It was quick and quiet. 

He reached into his handgun holster, his hand hovering over the gun in case anyone were to suddenly surprise him. His eyes peered down the dark hallway and he took a breath and paused. His hand left the gun and he opted for a fist fight instead. It took him ten minutes to get them out cold. 

He ran up the stairs. 

He was close. 

The security breach went off. Blaring alarms. Doors automatically closing. This was probably where the rest of the boys couldn’t make it. 

And, yet, Jongdae made a run for it despite how tired his legs felt, how his muscles were burning and the ache in his hands. The fire in his eyes pushed him even more and while the metal doors started sliding down to prevent him from getting any further, he’d slid down the hallway, barely missing it and successfully making it to the other end. 

He let out a breath and saw the door. His lips turned into a smirk, his hand now going for his gun as he kicked the door open. 

The light almost blinded his eyes after being in the dark for so long but he held up his gun while the other hand threw down a chess piece. 

King. 

The security breach stopped blaring. The building lights turned back on. All was back to normal. 

“Ten minutes,” you said with a smirk as you threw him your chess piece. Queen. 

He caught it with his free hand while he cocked his head at you with a smirk. “Pay up,” he said, gun still aimed at you. “You lost the bet this time.” 

You bit your lip as you took a step forward, your movements slow while you saw his muscles relax while he slowly put the gun down on the table despite how his eyes stayed on you. 

And, without a word, you reached for his shirt, pulled him close while your lips slightly grazed his, just barely. 

“Tease,” he muttered softly. 

You smirked right back but you weren’t about to give in just yet. “So, how’s about you tell the rest of your mafia boys that they can barely kidnap your Ace member during their training?” 

His hands found your waist and they’d began the search for your bare skin but your free hand found his wrist. His eyes shot up at you and you let your nose touch his. 

“That’s ‘cause it’s all the more fun,” he said, letting you hold his wrist as he turned you swiftly around so that your back was flush against his chest. “When I’m the one who caught you.”
