Sweetsop, also commonly known as sugar apples, are one of my absolute favorite fruits. Native to these islands and packs a flavor unlike any other. These are one of the first fruits I ever tasted. Realizing how much of a luxury it was growing up in Haiti not having to settle for simple flavors. Anyways, going to enjoy these for breakfast and I’ll try to post a fruit tasting with a bit more info about them. Last day on Koh Samui!

It hasn't been my favourite place at all, way too touristy, too many guys trying to sell you suits ( These guys were driving me insane 😡) I think overall it was the area we've stayed in, Chaweng that was the problem, the beach was nice and everything but the place doesn't offer much at all.

We started our last full day by eating breakfast at Cafe Uno again, this was the fully westernised, full English, proper Italian coffee, touristy place I said I didn't like the other day😆 This time around I didn't judge it by not being 'Authentic' enough and understood where we were, and that they are just catering for what they think people want...and I enjoyed the breakfast a lot more for that.

Having burnt myself again the previous day I decided to give the sun a miss and instead planned our onward trip back to Bangkok and the route we would take up to Northern Thailand. Ria attempted to get some more sun down at the beach but failed miserably as the clouds came over and sent the sun packing! 😁

Our next job of the day was to book our tickets for our journey back to Bangkok. We checked online for a guide on what we should expect to be paying using the 12goasia site, then tried a couple of the tour companies close to us for their prices. We settled on one which seemed a good deal and also included a taxi transfer to the pier from our hotel👌

When we had sorted this out and got our tickets we were hungry! We decided on the same place as yesterday for dinner, we definitely didn't come back to see one waitress, who has to win the award for the most miserable waitress on Koh Samui, but the others were nice and the food was good, and cheap! Which we like👏😋

We went back to our room for a while after this and relaxed, weather was poor so no beach which this gave Ria the chance to pack a day early as usual and feel proud and organised 😂 and sit there and mock me while I stressed with my last minute packing routine😆

When we were done in the room we went out for a wander around the area and worked up a thirst for a beverage 😋 We both ordered cocktails at 'Lipsmackers' bar and watched as Chaweng entered it's 'Night time phase'

The plan after our drinks was to visit a massage parlour to get pampered for a while on our last night. We both went for a foot scrub and laid down for them to begin dishing out the punishment. They had a job on their hands with my feet, I'd never had a scrub, and they would need heavy duty machinery to remove the dead skin😂😂 There we laid on our front laughing at me attempting to stay still whilst I uncontrollably twitched as they ran something again and again over the bottom of my feet. Even the girl who was doing my feet started laughing😂😂 It was supposed to be a relaxing time for the both of us, Ria enjoyed it but I spent my time grabbing the pillow trying so hard not to kick the girl in the face🤣

I'm on a mission over here to try as many different Thai fruits as I can find, and tonight was the turn of the ' Pomelo' It's very similar to grapefruit, sweet and sour but apparently really good for you!👌 But it apparently takes around 8 years to grow into a seed, and to be ready for harvest🙄

The rest of the night was spent looking in some of the shops, eating, and relaxing in the room with baby soft feet 😂

Finger Lime

Also called citrus caviar, is a very special citrus fruit from Australia. The finger lime has the size and shape of a finger. The outside of this fruit can vary in colour, but it usually is (dark) green to brown red. Every finger lime contains shiny granules that look like pearls. The fleshy pearls sometimes get compared to caviar. The colour of the caviar flesh varies from orange-red, lime green to yellow and has a fresh lime flavour. The citrus caviar balls burst open in your mouth and gives you a fresh blast of flavours.

Varieties

Emerald Lime green caviar in a dark purple to black skin. Fresh and has a slight lime flavour.

Byron Sunrise Red- orange caviar in chestnut coloured skin. Fresh and has a slight lime flavour.

Yellow Bright yellow caviar in green-yellow skin. Fresh and has a slight lime flavour

Rare availability and high cost Because of small scale production, finger limes are very difficult to find in the market place. They get distributed to large metropolitan areas and are mainly available at white table cloth restaurants and at some high-end retail stores. Mixologists use them in drinks and chefs work with finger limes as a garnish. Chefs primarily use them in seafood recipes and Asian Fusion dishes.

Flavor - They taste like a cross between a lemon and a lime juice… and are slightly tart. Finger limes look cucumbers with a dark outer skin, when cut lengthwise in half the inner caviar jewels can be scooped out and enjoyed in so many ways. The seeds pop in your mouth like caviar eggs thus giving the fruit a very interesting texture.

Cancer - And studies show that eating citrus like kumquats and finger limes can lower our risk of coming down with mouth, stomach, and throat cancer by 50%.

Antioxidants - Citrus like finger limes can improve wound healing, help prevent and reduce the severity of colds and flues. And because of the great antioxidants in finger limes they help prevent cancer and lower the risk of cardiovascular disease and arthritis.

Vitamin C - Citrus like finger limes contain most of our daily dietary vitamin C. And B vitamins that are important for energy and for boosting our metabolism… and for keeping away depression.

Polyphenols - Citrus like finger limes contain polyphenols like green tea… and beta-carotene for a healthy immune system, and even great zeaxanthines, and luteins which are important for eye health.

Skin - The inner seeds of finger limes contain lots of citric acid, malic acid, lactic acid, and glycolic acid which are great for getting rid of wrinkles, lines, and signs of aging. Making a paste of a few of the seeds and spreading it on the skin for a few minutes rejuvenates wrinkled and aging skin.
