PHOTOGRAPHY :: Fabian Oefner Exploding Cars
Artist, scientist and TED speaker Fabian Oefner’s new body of work Exploding Cars is currently exhibiting at the M.A.D. Gallery in Geneva. The series of images depict cars that have been completely dismantled and then photographed by the artist in strategic positions to create the impression an explosion is in motion – resulting in an optical illusion.
FROM M.A.D GALLERY:
Oefner is always on the lookout for catching what’s invisible, constantly searching for new ways to capture moments in time too fast for the human eye. The result of many long hours of work, Hatch and Disintegrating are two series of astonishing images that have been created from hundreds not to say thousands of shots.
In the Disintegrating series, each car has been dismantled completely, then photographed piece by piece in a specific position to obtain the illusion of an exploding car.
In the Hatch series, Oefner gives his interpretation of the birth of a car. He takes a miniature version of a Ferrari GTO, creates a gypsum shell around the car and then smashes it to create the illusion of the vehicle breaking out of its egg.

All the Doc Martians here look so new and pretty.
Mine are old hand-me-downs from my aunt.
From when she went to Grateful Dead concerts and exploded her car.
Yeah.
That happened.
And the Doc martians were there.
But they are mine now.
