Francois Wells, the Cunning Gambler

Not all of Blackwatch’s members were fighters or scientists, some had other roles to play, such as Francois Wells, Blackwatch’s best informant.

The Creole gambler fell into the folds of Blackwtch after the small casino he was running was busted for laundering dirty money belonging to warmongering dictators.  In return for not serving jail time, Francois offered his skillset to Blackwatch.  While Reyes didn’t see much of a combat use for him, he did see a different use for Francois: Counter-Intelligence.  While other members of Blackwatch would stand out in an underground casino or a back-room game of poker, Francois had the knack of silver-tonguing his way in and winning both funding for Blackwatch, but also valuable information that traditional Overwatch wouldn’t be able to obtain.

However, when Blackwatch was dissolved, Wells bid farewell to his comrades and went back to his gambling ways, hitting up major casinos and pushing his luck by gambling against Omnics (to quote him, “Respect to the man or omnic who can do the math.  I just go off card counting a gut instincts.”).  When he caught wind of Winston’s recall, he initially ignored it, but when he began hearing rumbles that former Blackwatch members were joining the terrorist group Talon, Francois knew that he had to do the right thing.

To the surprise of the heads of the newly reformed Overwatch, the former informant turned himself in, despite not being affiliated with Talon as a sign of good faith.  Now working once again along side his old Blackwatch buddies McCree and Genji, Francois continues his role as informant for Overwatch, but on a more official level.

At the gambling tables, Francois earned a bit of a reputation for his skill and luck, but also for his disdain for cheaters, whether they be other players or the house itself.  That being said, Wells owes part of his luck to the fact he can count cards.

On the occasion that things get hairy in the gambling halls, Francois arms himself with a custom deck of cards.  Not only can they give a nasty paper cut, but can be called back to his had after being thrown.  Beyond that, he carries a small derringer pistol more meant to shatter enemy shields than to maim as a means to throw them off-balance.
