WALSH: Why ‘Follow Your Heart’ And ‘Be Yourself’ Are Extremely Awful Pieces Of Advice
President Oprah made an appearance on Good Morning America yesterday where she doled out some nuggets of New Age wisdom. Asked to give advice to young girls, she said “be yourself” and “listen to your heart song.” If you follow your heart, says Oprah, “you will be led to your highest good, always.” And remember, “all of the voices in the world mean nothing if your voice is in alignment with all…

We are sorry if we led you to believe that attending university would land you a good job. That’s not actually true. A polytechnic college will do this – and the job opportunities available right now are fantastic. A good option for you might be to continue post-university studies at a polytechnic. But your university education, at least at the bachelor of arts level, was never intended to land you a job. It was intended to make you a more complete thinker. It was intended to teach you how to absorb complex information and make reasoned arguments. It was, quite simply, intended to teach you how to learn. Those are skills that you’ll use in any field of work.
Dear undergrads: Your degree was never intended to land you a job - The Globe and Mail
Is it a millennial thing to expect degrees to feed you into the workforce, or has that belief always existed? I never grew up thinking universities led to jobs. That's what college is for.
FALSE IDEALS
What are some of my false ideals and their causes and effects? Why do I need false ideals? Because I don't know myself so I've had to construct a false set of ideals to live up to. Because I wasn't loved for exactly who I am, I was held to false ideals, so I adopted them as my mask.
Anxiety and depression are caused by not being able to live up to these impossible ideals. I can feel it now, I'm trying my best to feel it and let it flow through me instead of pushing it down. What I don't know is what the next step in the pathwork is, I have to review the chapter again. Integrating the selves that's the answer but maybe I haven't got to the method yet.
I think I need to be physically perfect
I think I need to be perfect at work
I think I need be amazing in bed, i.e. put on a great performance
I think I need to be outgoing and gregarious (which is not my personality)
I think I need to be able to keep up with housework perfectly
Barbie...ideal? I think not.
If Barbie was an actual woman, she would be 5’9” tall, have a 39” bust, an 18” waist, 33” hips and a size 3 shoe. • Barbie calls this a “full figure” and likes her weight at 110 lbs. • At 5’9” tall and weighing 110 lbs, Barbie would have a BMI of 16.24 and fit the weight criteria for anorexia. She likely would not menstruate. • If Barbie was a real woman, she’d have to walk on all fours due to her proportions. • Slumber Party Barbie was introduced in 1965 and came with a bathroom scale permanently set at 110 lbs with a book entitled “How to Lose Weight” with directions inside stating simply “Don’t eat.” As a woman who has battled their body my whole life, and now has a daughter. I tend to keep Barbie out of my home for the most part. Never have liked how she's always on her tip toes as it was lol
when we hope, we usually hope for the wrong thing. we yearn for tomorrow and the progress that it represents. but yesterday was once tomorrow, and where was the progress in it? or we yearn for yesterday, for what was or what might have been. but as we are yearning, the present is becoming the past, so the past is nothing but our yearning for second chances. the past cannot be redeemed. what has been and what might have been both bring us to what is.
There's more to being beautiful than fuck tons of makeup and hair dyed so many times it feels like straw.
Half of you guys ARE really pretty, but you're seriously fucking soul-less.
I can't have a conversation with any of you that lasts more than 2 minutes. Go find yourself some interests or read a book or something, you girls hurt my heart.
