i peeked into the nge tag on ao3 despite my better judgement and bro.....bro...... (fandom wank ahead lol don't take seriously)

it's literally been over 30 years and i still have to see unironic and straightforward shinji/misato fic and i have literally only read one fic of it i liked and it went into detail how even more fucked up that relationship would be as an actual romantic relationship.....shinji/asuka is a weighted coin toss in terms of quality, i have only seen a handful of fics with that tag that i have and would potentially be interested in reading because so much of it is tied up in fans who don't understand nge is a deconstruction of a power fantasy and re-write it as a straight power fantasy being like ok this is how shinji can be less pathetic and alpha male enough to Win The Girl (the DISRESPECT to both shinji and asuka oml)...........shinji/rei just. ok sometimes if it's based off manga canon, it kinda makes sense because manga!shinji is like highkey obsessed with rei, but otherwise, No. WE HAVE ENOUGH FREUDIAN BULLSHIT IN THIS SERIES.................any harem fics are a HARD pass unless it's clearly supposed to be comedic fic or written by an author i trust..........shinji/mari has the same issues as shinji/asuka..................alao general lack of gen fic that don't tie back to re-writing nge into the power fantasy it was supposed to be deconstructing. i LIKE power fantasies, but like. it's nge!!!!!!!! THE WHOLE POINT IS TO LURE YOU IN AND TRICK YOU INTO TAKING CARE OF YOURSELF

i'm limiting my search to the last 3 years - where is my recent kawoshin fics?? my recent gen fics?????? the heterosexual horny.....,...it's so strong in the nge fandom that it's hard to sift through anything i want to read, because it's not the fun kind that respects the characters, it's hentai het. and if i go too far back, like 90s and early 2000s era on ff.net, the fics become almost unreadable because early english fandom really leaned hard into the vaguely judeo-christian religious aspect of nge because there wasn't a general understanding at the time that the religious aspect is just set dressing to the actual story and message and it could have easily been the norse pantheon or egyptian pantheon instead of christian if anno wanted to use those instead........no one in english fandom back then understood it wasn't that kind of deep and i don't know enough about the bible and christianity to understand all the references in those older fics.......i'm so tired, why is nge fandom like this

ahhh......how quickly i have forgotten how big fandoms work. there's already almost 2k fics on ao3 after one month. the tumblr tag is filled with x reader headcanons and people re-posting art from other sites. i already feel exhausted

i'm going to limit myself to sticking my head in once a week for now. maybe on tuesdays when the new orv and genius archer's streaming chapters drop
