With new info released by the Hiveswap team, I’m wondering if they’re intending to imply that trolls were going extinct by Hivebent time.
-Vriska claims it’s vanishingly rare to ever encounter someone with the same sign as you, but there are at least three same-sign pairs in Hiveswap. We could put this down to writer laziness, but it’s also possible something about how signs are assigned changed between times, or that trolls simply encounter other trolls at all less often by Vriska’s time, so the chances are lower.
-I’ve complained before about how the supposedly poor and oppressed lowbloods still have houses bigger than my entire apartment block, but when we also take into account that Aradia and Tavros appear to live on miles and miles of land and can’t even see any neighbours, while I believe Doc Scratch described trolls as outnumbering the stars, this theory might make it make more sense. If there are fewer trolls, there’s far more space and far more building materials to go around.
-It might also explain why “trolls think fashion is stupid” in Hivebent era - with fewer and fewer trolls to manufacture any fashion or fabrics, they would be harder to get hold of, especially for the lower castes. (Kanaya’s lusus is a giant alien moth - was her wide selection of clothing made with moth silk, assuming Mother Grubs can extrude it without forming a cocoon since they’re aliens?)
-Their society is already horribly violent and unstable and it would make sense for Doc Scratch to bother less about keeping it functioning and keeping trolls alive as things got closer to the game and thus the apocalypse, since everyone was going to die anyway. Come to think of it, did Joey do that?
