kiss me | Day 1: New Year
@fanovember day 1: new year
Sparks flew across the hot night sky, hundreds gathered in the plaza below. Gold and green flew, bursting into flowers of iridescence. People gasped at the shapes, the intricacy of how fire gathered in the sky twisting and turning in shades that they had never seen.
Students bustled in the castle above the village, some dancing in intricate moves of elegance, others simply content to watch by the windows. Yuura smiled, watching Vil do some sort of intricate move, Epel struggling to follow as his dance partner. She took a sip of her drink, a sort of fizzy, non-alcoholic golden drink. It reminded her that although she could belong to her old world, now that she was her mother’s daughter, this world was similar.
Her melancholy was not something anyone else had to worry about, she shrugged off that thought in her mind as Ace said something funny to her, making her laugh. A well timed laugh is good to make sure others aren’t worried, she thought as she humed to herself. Smoothing out her dress, she paused and took a look around, excusing herself from her friend group.
Epel buzzed past her, escaping from Vil, making her dizzy as she snatched a bottle of apple cider. Leaving the grand ballroom, she put her cloak back on, a dark brown over a rich green. She smiled at that, turning from a princess to a potato, covering up the elegant silk of her gown with a deep clay brown cloak. How ironic for her to be fleeing to go down to the town.
But she couldn’t miss midnight - to go and be some innocent civilian for 10 seconds, counting down to midnight and kissing someone. That was something she missed from her old world, the mundane, the magicless moment that allowed one to escape from a world filled with pain and depression.
She didn’t feel the eyes watching her make her escape, stepping into the hall of mirrors. Time to be someone normal, instead of the savior of 7 traumatized boys. Time to be her mother’s daughter and her fathers’ child. Too much had happened in her life, and she just wanted to forget it all, a night out on the town.
Her siblings met her on the outskirts, before welcoming her to the folk dance, dragging her into the crowd, hands close to each other. Yuuken twirled her around, lifting his new sister up at certain moments in the tempo. His delicate fae features were a contrast to his muscles, she noted. He was the second oldest, the kendo master.
She glanced over, about to change hands to switch with her sisters. Both were strong beastwomen, one emotionally, and the other could throw a man over on his back without breaking a sweat. Yuuka, glimmered with sweat, as she glanced around, strong arms linking through Yuuna. The black bear and the leopard cat danced, happily, off for one night, and work tomorrow. But they still looked happy, as they brought her into their dance.
Yuuna’s flashy patterned tail curled around her leg in affection, as she switched off, dancing with Yuuken. The two of them linked their arms and danced in a circle, skipping their legs. She laughed happily, as her sister brought her close, nuzzling her in affection. The bear beastwoman when switching off partners looked over at her carefully, making sure no harm came to her before they started to dance.
“I’m glad to have another sibling, the others were getting bored of being thrown onto the mat.” Yuuka’s jest made Yuura pale before she laughed, “Ah, never changes. I have Yuuken to work out with, not my non-athletic siblings.”
She gave a quick nose nuzzle to her before switching off to the oldest, Yuuya. He smiled, switching their brother off to Yuuka’s hands. He simply gave an odd crinkle at the eye, marked with scales. The vampire squid mer passed her to the person behind, after he twirled her twice, the countdown starting with that current partner.
She felt gloved fingers, as her hood was up. Her partner let out a pleased chuff, as they did the final movements to the dance, a twirl, a lift, and then a kiss on the hand. She was glad that it was dark out, except for the bursts of fireworks, because that way the person wouldn’t see her flushed face.
He looked up, emerald eyes meeting golden. It was Leona. Her eyes widened, as she dragged him off to a dark corner. “What are you doing here?” She whispered in a hushed tone, his eyes dragging over her. “What do you think?” He sassed back, “I’m not one to stand in some ballroom.”
“You’re supposed to be there! You’re the housewarden!” She sassed back. “I followed you because it was annoying there.” “Well, I was bonding with my siblings.” She frowned. "And how would you know it wouldn’t be annoying?”
“Annoying would be you and Ruggie buggin me.” He pushed his face closer to hers, as shouts started in the background, with 9 seconds to midnight. Her eyes widened, as she pushed her face close to his, and on the last count, with the stars and fireworks, kissed him. She took a quick step back, turning away from him. She let go of a breath, walking away, until she felt a hold on her arm.
“What was that?” He growled out, green eyes flashing in anger. “A midnight kiss, Leona.” She said, smiling proudly. “I deserve something more than that, Herbivore.”
Her lips twisted into a smirk, “Catch me then.” Reciting her family’s unique magic, “Anything your heart desires, will come to you if your heart is in a dream, no request is too extreme, When You Wish Upon a Star!”
Her magic spurted out, as she turned invisible. “See you later!” He growled in fury.
