Excaliburs Geode № 57
The Sword of Mages & Baz Pitch's Violin
"In justice. In courage. In defence of the weak. In the face of the mighty. Through magic and wisdom and good." (to summon the Sword of Mages)
&
"I'm working on a Kishi Bashi song that my stepmother, Daphne, calls 'needlessly morose.'" (Baz's music has a vibe)

Happy 10-Year Anniversary to my favorite book, and the start of my favorite trilogy!
This is unlike any other illustration project I've tackled, before. I wanted to illustrate them because... well, Simon's sword and Baz's violin are both iconic props in the story, and are wrapped up so thoroughly in each character's identity. I do love them so.
Close-ups:
I made my monster high oc into a paladin for a dnd one shot. She's an oath of the river paladin, her sword is inspired by the King Arthur myth about the lady of the lake, (for actual dnd mechanics I chose the great sword of warning) and for her armor she has laundry etchings as a reference to her mom, the washer woman of the fords (armor of the fallen for dnd fans)
that thing people say about taking swords from strange women in lakes (one of my new bookmark designs!)

18. Beetle
Siwari Wing Blade
Made from scavenged wing cases and wings of a large beetle native to the Bluestone Desert, the sharp wing is fused with a metal hilt using esoteric rituals understood only by the Yarerin clan of Viðezel, the House of Smiths.
These wing blades are often employed by members of the Siwari, guardians who patrol the vast deserts of Yarezel deterring any outsiders from venturing too close to the few remaining Elven cities. The Siwari also guard shipments of Bluestone for the Blue Hand Syndicate - the only organisation that sells Bluestone to the rest of the known world…
thought the swords in that photoshoot didn't fit at all, and that I'd draw some fitting swords. but over the many hours of drawing these i wondered if the swords not fitting was the point? i mean, vessel's outfit is trimmed with gold, ornate and rich... and he wields rather plain swords of bronze and silver? we know the man has both taste, and an admirable yet insufferable commitment to the bit... so maybe this means something? is this old news i've just missed? maybe i've just been microwaving sleep token in my brain too much.
trying my hand at swordtember this year.
