Round 1, Match 25 — Silicon Dreams vs. FantasY2K
Silicon Dreams, also known as Old CGI or Retro CGI, refers to the surreal and uncanny visuals seen in early CGI animations, art and videogames from the mid-1980s to early 2000s. Silicon Dreams often includes images, artwork, and shorts made with early CGI from the 80s to 90s, a majority of them being Sci-Fi themed, extraterrestrial-like surrealistic landscapes, big planets, and floating shapes or even CGI architecture, such as Neoclassical PoMo statues. A lot of imagery included simplistic polygons, textures, and lighting, due to the technical limitations of the time. It specially includes images made in the computer program Bryce 3D.
vs.
FantasY2K is an aesthetic that takes elements of Medieval Fantasy aesthetics and reinterprets them to conform to the fashion trends of the 2000s. The balance of these clashing styles can vary from haute couture runway looks with vaguely fantastical themes, to film and TV costumes that are passable as loosely historical, but with definite anachronisms such as modern hairstyles, makeup and silhouettes. The aesthetic takes an unapologetically kitsch approach in its disregard for historical accuracy in favor of contemporary trends. For this reason, it is often adopted with self-aware irony, particularly in satirical media such as A Knight's Tale or Ella Enchanted. Common visual motifs include highly-saturated color palettes, poorly-rendered digital artwork, gaudy/cluttered compositions, highly-stylized landscapes, overly-edited photographs, and luminescent or holographic effects.
