I gave it a makeover before I saw your comment, but you’re absolutely right. I draw a complete blank when it comes to modern buildings, so I embraced the wood *snigger* and changed some stuff and I like it a lot more now. Still not amazingly, but I can’t be arsed to remake it all over again. It totally doesn’t match its location -- it’d look a lot better somewhere else, maybe on The Old Salt House lot or something? But then it would need brick, and I have embraced the wood *snigger*. Maybe the green part of the building needs to be concrete or something? I’m rubbish at this. And that diagonal malarkey is still KILLING me.

i gotta know about that LIME PICKLE

The name is probably misleading; more accurately, it’s pickled limes. You can make Indian pickle with any number of things (lime/lemon, carrot, tomato, chili, garlic, gongura, gooseberry—even fish. My grandma’s fish pickle is bomb.) We eat it as a relish alongside a main dish. 

So for lime pickle you cut a bunch of limes into wedges, and put them into a container with a generous amount of salt and whole garlic cloves. And you leave that out for a few days, giving it a shake every once in a while. I know this sounds weird already.

Then after a few days you heat up a lot of oil, and to that add your pickle masala, which is basically mustard, fenugreek, chili, and asafoetida. So you fry that for a bit and then pour the super hot oil onto your lime and garlic in a bottle. Then you can just leave it out, no refrigeration needed, and it won’t go bad as long as you use clean, dry spoons to get out the pickle. You’ve preserved it with the salt, spice, and hot oil, so it really gets better the longer you leave it out—the lime gets more tender, and the sour/spicy/salty flavor deepens while more of a gravy develops around the lime pieces. In the pantry right now is a bit of a bottle that my grandma made probably a year ago and it’s fucking delicious.
