At the beginning of The First Emperor, he is the reigning emperor. He is 21 years old.
He ascended to power following the untimely death of the previous emperor and empress, his father and mother, at 16. They had died of a widespread sickness.
He’s very open-minded, but also increasingly stubborn and somewhat secretive (though so willing to speak no one suspects it). He learned to be this way because, as a child emperor, many tried to manipulate him to do their bidding. He would not be moved, which led to conspiracy against him, which he subsequently destroyed and then asserted his place on the throne. His teen years, therefore, were somewhat tumultuous, but he is all the better for it.
He likes talk of philosophy and likes to learn about things he does not yet understand. He’s also very religious, a devotee of Yksi, goddess of wisdom.
He is very curious about Kyall, the drift that comes to be under his protection. He sees opportunity in him, to change their world.
He enjoys beef and acidic ingredients like lemons. He also has a not-so secret passion for botany.
I’m afraid I have no drawings of him yet. I would like to, someday, but his features have not revealed themselves to my hand yet.
