Can you tell me more about Kyall?

Kyall is a drift, a semi-aquatic humanoid species that tends to dwell along equatorial and tropical coastlines. He is the fifth son of King Shirall of the Delta, the kingdom closest to the human Imperial City (his name quite literally means fifth king). He is 19 at the start of The First Emperor.

Kyall is a quiet, sullen prince. He is thought by the rest of his family to be rather dim-witted, and his father insists that a guard remains by his side at all times to keep him out of danger.

The significance of being so carefully guarded despite being a spare is due to the value of his scales. Drift nobility strive to become like divinity, and Kyall is the first of their kind to have pure golden scales, like the god Akasyr. While this has earned him some welcome attention from his father, it has likewise earned him unwanted attention from those who wish to do him harm.

Kyall is actually quite clever, and distrustful of most people. He has a great appreciation for sweets, especially the kind humans create. He likes to collect shells along the beach when he can find time away from his studies.

He is not a particularly fast swimmer, but he is bold and willing to go where others do not dare. This is exactly what gets him into so much trouble.

Gosh I don’t really dwell in the lands of romance so this is hard for me. But I have a lot of characters who are either extremely minor or have relationships outside of the plot that do have even goofier dynamics. But let’s keep things relevant to what is actually publishable.

Kyall.

He is the main character of my second work-in-progress, The First Emperor. This is a redraw of a piece I did almost exactly 3 years ago (see below). You may recognize the scarf and the earrings. The scarf, in this case, has no alternative meaning other than that pattern ate on Akasyr and it’s eating here. The earrings, however, have an insane story attached to them.

This piece was originally imagined as a portrait of a portrait of him following his ascension to the throne. I imagine it was painted in the short pause in violence between the Five-City Siege and the Furajyan Civil War, the only time anyone could get him to stand still long enough to get it done.

(Idk wtf was going on with his clothes here. I was experimenting with a fashion “style” called Making Shit Up.)

Introducing a few more characters from TFE. Most of my characters’ first lines are nothing to write home about, but it is what it is. Kyall’s is a masterpiece, however.

I feel so dead inside. I don't know what to do anymore. My wrist feels so numb. I'm so afraid of losing him. I feel so pathetic. I feel so worthless. I feel so empty. But apparently it's still not enough. I don't understand. I'm so confused. I feel like hurting myself more and more and more. I don't know what else to do but hurt myself more and more and more. My wrist feels so numb. And I'm starting to get frustrated that I can't find anything useful to hurt myself. I feel so alone and he's right next to me.
