Right before seeing that man, the German spelunker was breaking inside a G Corporation branch. With an effective plan, he managed to get into a restricted area without being noticed. The young man was about to walk the empty corridor when that person literally spawned from the right. Leo could tell straight away that he hadn't an employee; that situation was confusing.
