illumi tables killing gon immediately, because of hisoka.
there are sooo many ways to read into the why of this exchange. but that is what happens here.
1. illumi is prioritizing the zoldycks
for this one, essentially illumi is simply avoiding a physical confrontation with hisoka.
he could simply plan to take out gon at a later date when hisoka isnt there to intervene, have the order come from someone other than himself, or wait until gon is good enough for hisoka to fight but not so good that illumi couldnt still defeat him.
or, he weighing risks of zoldyck destablization. namely, is himself being dead more destablizing than gon being alive. he is not confident enough that he could survive a fight with hisoka. in which case he may be able to kill gon, but he would also die in the process. and has deemed not a big enough threat to warrant sacraficing how own life.
another options is that ruining ties with hisoka would be more damaging to the zoldyck household than leaving gon alive. either because hisoka is that much of an asset to assasination missions, or because illumi believes hisoka would hunt down the zoldyck family in response.
2. illumi is prioritizing hisoka
this is incredibly unlikely, but i do love it. illumi simply decides not to kill gon because hisoka doesnt want him to. it is likely that to some degree the reverse is also true. hisoka is refraining from hunting the zoldycks because illumi doesnt want him to. they are both never far away from choosing to ignore the others wishes, but they do both have ample opportunities to do so and choose not to.
3. illumi is balancing both
this is the one i like the most (which doesnt mean its to most compelling). while it would be better for the zoldycks for illumi to kill gon now, he doesnt deem gon to be a big enough threat to override hisokas strong want to keep him alive. so in this instance he chooses hisokas desired outcome over the zoldycks desired outcome.
