My Top 10 most unfair deaths in Attack on Titan!
Even if I already did a post on this before and I simply forgot, I’m gonna do this anyway and give my own personal analysis on each one.
Death is a big part on what made AOT so unpredictably intriguing, however, there were a few I would call unfair or just full on cruel.
10.) Franz and Hannah
This poor blooming couple sadly met a tragic fate; probably to foreshadow all the other ships’ fates in this series. Franz did promise to protect Hannah while fighting in Trost, and he did fulfill it but at the cost of being bitten in half.
The saddest part is that we never learned on Hannah’s fate after this; especially since we see Samuel and Daz later on. Did she give up and wished to die to reunite with Franz? We may never know.
9.) Hannes
Ah, the uncle figure to Eren, Armin and Mikasa was like the one person left from their childhood home.
He risked his life to go fighting and rescue Eren alongside the Survey Corps, and went up against the Smiling Titan as to both save him and avenge Carla’s death… only to end in complete failure.
But perhaps it’s a blessing for him to not witness what Eren eventually grew up to be.
8.) Marlowe
I said this once and I’ll say it again: it’s such a sin that this guy got tossed aside super quickly and into a herd of boulders no less.
You’d think that after all that build up from season 1, this guy would be much more of a deal than we initially thought. However, it turns out that Yams preferred a red-headed a**hat over someone naive yet had his heart in the right place.
He trusted the scouts and look where that got him.
7.) Bertholdt
Now I wouldn’t call this unfair plot wise, as Paradis gaining a new Titan power does put them to an advantage, what is unfair is the lack of importance Berty served afterwards.
Minutes ago, we witnessed how more confident he grew despite still experiencing empathy for his former comrades. This really could’ve led somewhere with this morally grey mindset…
But he ended up reversing back to a bystander.
6.) Ymir
After all we watched throughout season 2, how much we learned on her background and how dedicated she was to living her own life while caring deeply for Historia’s safety…
She suddenly decided helping the warriors was better.
Now this could’ve led somewhere and eventually have her return to Paradis and meet with Historia one final time, but it turned out this significant character died tragically off-screen.
5.) Colt
Look at this; two s4 characters I actually care about a lot. One in which didn’t deserve what he got.
Colt was a loyal older brother who insisted on Zeke to not use his titan transformation scream until Falco was out of range, it unfortunately failed and Colt’s loyalty brought him to his end.
But soon after, Falco ate Porco and became the new Jaw Titan. So… what was the point of Colt’s sacrifice if Falco was gonna come back anyways?
4.) Sasha
Our beloved food lover with sharp ears and eyes falls and shook the fandom like crazy. Even though Gabi did shoot her, I would also blame Floch for yelling so loud that she couldn’t hear someone sneaking aboard.
The fact the rest of the story wouldn’t stop rubbing her death in our faces and seeing what her life turned into during the past four years makes his even more cruel - ‘hoping they all live long lives’ my ass, Eren.
3.) Marco
Even without me being bias, this scene is still too upsetting to watch.
He was a optimistic young cadet who trusted his comrades and friends through the entire battle of Trost, and yet one small mistake caused the biggest price - Thanks Reiner for talking about your secret plans in the open.
I know his death carries on to Jean having his character development, but it doesn’t stop this scene from being downright brutal - visibly and emotionally.
2.) Miche
Here he is, folks! The second strongest man behind Levi himself, brutally getting ripped apart by three titans at once!
This was apparently to demonstrate the Beast Titan’s abilities but really, this could’ve been anyone. Having it being Miche honestly disrespects what a capable soldier others claimed him to be. And not ever being mentioned by name afterwards doesn’t help either.
Did I mention the super haunting voice acting?
1.) Faye
Yes, her death is meant to push Grisha into his role to enter Paradis. Yes, it’s meant to show the cruelty of Marley. But it’s still no excuse for how unfair it is.
This poor little girl did nothing wrong. She was practically brought along by Grisha but got a pretty average punishment, his sister got the worse of it.
And how ironic it is that the most unjust, disheartening death in the story was not caused by titans, but by racist humans instead.
