Review: What Lies Beyond the Veil by Harper L. Woods & Adelaide Forrest
CW: the loss of a parent (past), the death of a family member, and sexual harassment, a morally grey character, touch her & you die
For decades, humans have been shielded from the Fae, until one day the protective veil is shattered, and the fae and their magic take over the human world. Estrella escapes her city after becoming Fae Marked in order to avoid being abducted by her Fae partner. When she comes into Caelum, another marked person, they band together to try to escape both the Fae and the humans who are seeking them.
This was a very enjoyable way to start the series. It featured well-developed characters, a basic yet enjoyable world. It featured well-developed characters, a basic yet enjoyable world. I was astounded by the amount of detail in this book. I really like the writing style and attention to detail.
THE FORCED PROXIMITY. THE TENSION!!
Estrella is the kind of heroine that every book needs. Strong, level-headed, and self-sufficient, yet not afraid to ask for help. I can't wait to see more of the heroine, who is sassy and strong. Each challenge pushed her, forced her to confront her weaknesses, and she REFUSED to allow those flaws hold her back. The spice also did not disappoint. 😏
Caelum was sarcastic, feisty, flirty. It was a lot of fun to see their interactions especially the banter.
"I wish I was a hydra," I teased.
"Then I could just swallow you whole and not have to endure your endless hovering anymore."
"My star, you can swallow me whole anytime you --" I smacked him in the stomach
"No, Little One. I'm going to love you. Until you forget what it is to hurt and then long after that. Until the scars you wear like armor have faded from memory, and only we remain."
CAN'T WAIT TO READ THE SECOND BOOK
