how did ravensmoke get their bird name?

This ask was in the ask box for so long, I was just trying to decide what I wanted to draw for it. But also for lore!! According to the general consensus of the clan and traditionally naming stuff, Ravensmoke was named correctly. The sound of a bird is a legitimate reason to name your kit after the bird. In Sparrowtuft's case, she was named that just because her mother thought she would do something great. There was no sign. The clan kind of side eyed Eagleclaw because of that, because it just wasn't the done thing.

I wonder what the other clans thought if they just saw that whilst out on patrol or woke up to that-

So Featherclan right now is a bit further from their previous territory because the fire destroyed most of it. When the two of them ran away, they crossed over the creek and passed through another clans territory before going further. I'll eventually probably make a map for that but I also hate making maps, so we'll see.

While the other clans that are around them aren't super set in stone in my mind (besides one), the older cats from all those clans probably recognize this. In this comic, if a leader and a deputy both pass away then Starclan picks the next leader. Usually with a bit of a display like this (because Starclan is extra) but for the other clan it wouldn't be birds and might happen in different ways. This only happens very rarely and again, that's why only the older cats know about things like this happening.

However, the other clans saw this and now they know that Featherclan hasn't completely died out. They also know where Featherclan is now.

Ooc, did you change Raven and/or Sparrow's name to match the bird theme or did the game generate them?

I did change their names to match the bird theme! I unfortunately didn't write down their original names anywhere, so I don't remember them. I'm not good with code or anything, but if anyone knows how to check that and they let me know, I'll check and edit the post with their original names.

The bird names are actually very into the lore that I've cooked up and I don't know when I'm going to get the chance to talk about it again so mini lore drop.

Previously in Featherclan before the fire, cats named with a bird prefix were only done so if there was some sort of sign that indicted they should be named after a bird. Say, a kitten was born and not so long after that a bird started singing for the mother to hear. It's seen as a honor and it's wasn't uncommon for the cats named after birds to have strange things about them, maybe prophecies that specifically had to do with them, or a stronger connection to starclan than most or some other fun things. It's rare and unusual for cats to be named after birds when there was no sign prior, but it does happen.

In Featherclan now since they're rebuilding, I've decided that any cat that is clanborn will have a bird name, at least for a little while. If any new cats join from outside the clan, including kits, they don't have to change their name and in fact it might be seen as rude if they try and change their name to a bird's name.
