A little to the left

LSTR H3504, or more well known amongst the local crew as "Chirp," examined the rattling generator. She was trying to work out why it was making so much noise. According to the diagnostic checklist she had written for herself, it was completely fine, the fuel consumption and structural stability of the machine were well within regulation. It was just that damned rattling, her dorm was right next door, and she knew it had been getting on her whole Cadre's nerves at this point.

She heard a snicker from behind her, and quickly turning to face the source of the sound that interrupted the rattling, she saw a Eule. The owl's eyes widened as the magpie's met her. "O-oh, sorry Chirp, didn't mean to break your focus."

The Elster frowned for a moment in confusion before smiling slightly. "It's alright Feder. It's nice to see you honestly." She was never sure how EULR H3593 was able to tell Chirp apart from the rest of her cadre. They all looked the same except for 02, as she had a burn on her left cheek from when she slipped in a reactor room.

The engineer turned back to her predicament, looking closely at it as she allowed the other replika to hover over her shoulder and watch. It certainly wasn't hard to tell Feder apart from many other Eules, she's always moving, it was like every moment of the girl's day was a part of a dance.

Chirp frowned again, she caught her focus as it drifted to Feder again. She took a deep breath before leaning forward and peeking in between two pipes on the side of the generator.

Another snicker. At this point, Chirp glared over at the oppressively staring Eule unit. "Okay, what?" At this point, she crossed her arms, holding her checklist clipboard in between her finger and thumb, hanging it from her grasp as she awaited a response from Feder.

"I-, uh..." She stepped back, giving a short bow of her head as she shuffled from one foot to the other awkwardly. "It's just that I saw you do that thing I always see you do. None of the other Elsters do that either."

Chirp couldn't help but take interest in learning what that was as she waved a hand, signaling for Feder to go on. It would be nice to know her tell after all.

The Eule seemed surprised. "Oh, you don't even know you're doing it do you?"

The Technician didn't really speak a response, but her eyes demanded that Feder continue.

"Y-y'know..." She took an awkward pause before closing her right eye and tilting her head a little to the left. "You do this all the time, whenever you're focusing on something... It's... Kinda cute."

Chirp's mouth opened a bit, moving to say something but her mind hadn't finished the thought to the point where a dull exclamation of surprise rolled off her tongue.

The Eule held the pose for a moment before her eye drifted to the generator. "Hey wait, there's a loose nut on the other side of that pipe!" Feder pointed at the rattling nut just barely in her view from the angle of her head.

Truthfully, Chirp never even knew it was a thing she did, almost instinctual. She didn't speak that conclusion though, instead giving a sly smile. "That's why I do it. A different angle always helps." With that, she moved to fix the problem.

Hilt and Helm president loved it!! He immediately put in orders for a three set piece of tournament prizes and it looks like I'll be doing that for the foreseeable future!!

I actually did something, dude?? I feel accomplished??? I put so much care and attention and STRESS into this guy.

(mostly because i made them while i was really really sick) (here's hoping I won't have to do it that way again 🤞🏽🙏🏽)
