Feedback Fest 2025!!

It's that time of year again!! This is my list of 10 fic recs for International Fanworks Day 2025. The theme this year is fandom ecosystem, and while I had a couple of ideas which fit that theme, I was mostly going to end up reccing lots of big well-known fics, so I decided to take the opposite route.

This is a list of some of my favourite fics, all with less than 20,000 hits on AO3, (vaguely) in order from lowest to highest.

“Star-Birth” by Accipitae. 93K words, rated Mature.

Fandom: Star Wars - All Media Types; Star Wars Prequel Trilogy Ship: Gen, Anakin-centric

Summary: The force is a cosmic horror, and Anakin Skywalker is half force. That changes a few things.

Rec: the IMAGERY in this fic is DIVINE. Literally. Every single sentence of description makes me want to, like, shove my hands into it and eat it. It's a longer one, and the only unfinished one here, but it's so worth the read and will have you thinking about all the canon implications for days. It’s just so huge and sensory and the exact kind of way I wish I could write — and then it jumps to such incredible Star Wars lore, like the Naboo politics in this are so so so awful and interesting, or the tatooine culture or honestly, just the angst is to die for. I just want to scrunch this fic up like a ball of paper it makes me feel so many thingsssss. <333

“Last Train Home” by valleykey. 27K words, rated Teen.

Fandom: 文豪ストレイドッグス | Bungou Stray Dogs; Ship: Gen, Sigma-centric

Summary:

In the Decay’s aftermath, the Port Mafia’s Nakahara Chuuya finds Sigma among the sunlit silvers of Suribachi city. He grins viciously. “In that case, let’s get you your Casino back.” /// Sigma picks up their pieces.

Rec: This fic is Amazing, and I am so in love with everything about it; it explores Sigma having been created from the book so well and expands on their story in a way that feels perfect to me. And you KNOW I'll always adore non-linear narratives and extended metaphors <3 Nikolai's characterisation in this also feels so perfect and so loyal to canon that I'll always think of this fic when I see him, and finally the way the author writes about the casino and Sigma's relationship to it further towards the end really cuts deep.

“If you be my star, I'll be your sky” by Garecc. 3.7K words, rated Gen.

Fandom: Dream SMP; Ship: Kristin Rosales Watson/Phil Watson

Summary:

Contrary to common belief, there was, an albeit short, period of time where Philza did not love Lady Death. Through the years, he has loved her in many ways, as a goddess, as a friend, and most recently, as his wife. A study into Philza and Kristin's relationship across the thousands of years they have been intertwined, as well the difference in how love exists between a mortal and a goddess.

Rec: This is just a really lovely fic about the developing relationship between Philza and Kristin, exploring what it's like to love a god as a mortal but also featuring some cute moments between them. It just makes me smile every time I read it :) Content warnings: No Archive Warnings Apply

Fandom: Lockwood & Co. (TV); Ship: Lucy Carlyle/Anthony Lockwood

Summary: In the aftermath of the catacombs, Lockwood gets more tests than usual at the hospital. | A small fic addressing the aftermath of Winkman's in episode 5.

Rec: Just a really cathartic but not too heavy fic set in a missing scene in the hospital, where Lockwood gets a minor therapy session and we all cheer

Fandom: Catechism (Webcomic); The Other Side Animatic - emilyamiao; Ship: Elias/Yun

Summary: Yun and Elias go undercover to get some intel about the younger Everstied's situation, but acquiring the necessary information won't be easy. Another risk would have to be taken, one that involves a hella lot of dancing.

Rec: Ahhh! My favourite fic from my favourite fandom! No but really, Catechism is something you should definitely get into, but you don't have to have read the comic to necessarily understand this fic - especially since it's not really based on the current comic at all, and more on some pre-comic lore. However, the comic itself is AMAZING, so this is just as much a rec for you to go read it as it is for the brilliant fic above, which really hits the hurt/comfort spot for these characters for me. “carry me home” by synnodic. 38K words, rated Teen.

Fandom: 文豪ストレイドッグス | Bungou Stray Dogs; Ship: Oda Sakunosuke/Sakaguchi Ango; Dazai Osamu/Nakahara Chuuya

Summary: To avoid going home to his terrible family, Ango asks Oda if they can pretend to be a couple for the holidays. Or: Ango and Oda fake a relationship to spend the holidays together. Dazai tries to make Oda slip up. Chuuya starts a betting pool. Shenanigans ensue.

Rec: Everything in this is so perfect and makes me smile all the time while simultaneously wringing oda and ango's necks like GET IT TOGETHER. But the thing that really makes this fic special to me is the proposal between soukoku at the end - genuinely makes me cry every time, it's so well written and feels so in character and I love them so much <333 Content warnings: No Archive Warnings Apply

“looking for a creation myth” by bonesandthebees. 19K words, rated Teen.

Fandom: Dream SMP; Ship: Gen, Wilbur Soot & TommyInnit

Summary: or, the stars are disappearing from the sky. Tommy refuses to talk about it, and Wilbur can't help but feel like there's something more going on.

Rec: I LOVE this author's cosmic horror and she's written another fic similar to this. I sat in a dark room and read this and it gave a me a tingly feeling and pins and needles and was the best way I could have read it, and the build up of tension and the suspense makes this such a cool experience to read in one sitting. Summary:

Rec: A very short one, but this is so perfectly how I imagine their relationship and the physical and sensory descriptions are so vivid and make me feel so immersed in it, it's really good.

Fandom: Six of Crows Series - Leigh Bardugo; Ship: Kaz Brekker/Inej Ghafa

Summary: When Golly opened his door to Barrel clients, he didn't count on becoming attached.

Rec: I love outsider povs as much as the next person, and this fic is so heartwarming and sweet it just makes you smile. Also love that the author picked something you wouldn't normally think about in fiction (where DOES everyone get their clothes) and ran with it. Content warnings: No Archive Warnings Apply

Summary:

“Dazai,” Ranpo interrupts. “You do the emergency surgery.” He’d foolishly believed no one would make him do these things anymore—that he was free. or: Dazai is forced to operate on Poe, and unwanted memories arise.

Rec: I love when fics give Dazai medical knowledge (and trauma) from Mori, and the switching back and forth between the flashback is so visual it's amazing. Also the hurt/comfort at the end is just *chef's kiss*

Feedback Fest let's gooo!

Here's 10 recommendations from me, in no particular order

1] More Than A Sidekick, by Jason_Todds_Thigh_Holster (Henry Danger)

Oh, the classic "I have to pretend I don't care about you at all to save you, meanwhile I would give the whole word to you"-trope (totally official name). Mixed with the character in danger having relatively low self-worth and a usual "rough around the edges"-caretaker/mentor, it's just HMMMM (/pos)! I'm already a sucker for characters in hostage situations, so pairing these together is Such Good Soup. I personally didn't even keep up much with Henry Danger after my childhood, but the characters are already so nicely characterized within the fic itself, that you truly don't feel like you miss anything.

2] [injury] of a salesman, by becki (Deltarune)

It's only a one shot, but everything that happens is so well organized and shown that I keep forgetting. "basically just lots of spamton getting the love and care he needs" (author's tag) describes it well, and I am HERE for it. Especially the part where the two eat together tugs at my heartstrings, I love characters with some form of food-insecurity being allowed to eat freely. Swatch as a character is also such a delight.

3] URL not found, by Aster269 (@aster269) (Deltarune)

Quite a long one, this time; I read it while it was still going, and it was worth waiting for every update! The Addisons have very clearly established personalities and beliefs that are explained through their backstory. It's also very interesting to see every facet of their life, from childhood, to Big Shot Era to reunion. And personally, I can't get enough of the Addison Family unconditionally loving and supporting each other <3

4] The Wake-Up Call, by cookiescrumbles (Wander Over Yonder)

Wander. Has. Issues. And they are very well acknowledged here.

His personality really shines through here, both in the way he acts and talks. The entire concept is also very sweet; and I love Sylvia's and Wander's relationship. Shout out to the Hat, for getting Wander what he needs!

5] Tiny Reverberations, by Sylphidine_Gallimaufry (@sylphidine) (Deltarune)

SO! CUTE! Very short, but that just contributes to how fun of a read it is. It's pure fluff, and that mixed with Spam's reaction due to his low self-worth is balm for the soul <3 It's just so adorable; love the kitty <3

6] Mourning Dove, by LynnCanigula15 (@moonbeam-dragon) (Darkwing Duck)

I must say, I'm always a fan of people talking about the kinda messed-up stuff that happens in DW sometimes. And I think how the other three members of the F4 react to this - relatively complicated - situation is very much in character for who they are. Big fan of angst, and Bushroot's state of mind is especially interestingly described and established in chapter 2.

7] Back Alley Beatdown, by SwoodMaxProductions (@swoodthis) (Deltarune)

I love seeing Spamton fighting tooth and nail, knowing his own advantages. Sweet Cap'n Cakes are also very sweet and considered to the Spam Man here; making sure to reassure him when necessary. The description of the parts carefully placed beside him is a personal favourite of mine here! It also has a very nice conclusion.

8] Last of your Kind, by Vanyel (@boonbeenblade) (Cult of the Lamb)

It manages to say what it wants so clearly and concisely, seeing the length that it is. The use of language is truly phenomenal, and it shows a very cool outlook on the relationship between the Lamb and TOWW. Even though the fic depicts events that you literally play yourself, it manages to give an interesting outlook on them, making one able to experience them again as if from fresh eyes, from the perspective of the character. The second-person writing comes off as very natural.

9] Ever so slightly, by Pancakes_for_Dragons (Deltarune)

Sometimes I need a story that is just unapologetic angst. The fic gives Rouxls a very clear persona that reflects on his literal state as the "Rules Card" very well. How his relationship with Lancer grows is really sweet; and especially "I’m thoust Lesser father, surely that musteth count for something." and the whole event around it, still has a space in my mind, since the first time I read it!

10] breathe, breathe, by SteveSmackdown2014 (School for Vampires)

Again, just a very sweet story. It's very easy to see it both from Oskar's (with all the knowledge we have as viewers) and from Sunshine's (with a more 'normal', human outlook) perspective; and why they both react the way they do. Oskar's fear is shown as so very real, but the actual moment is just as sweet.

Feedback Fest 2024

These are in no particular order and they are all from a few different fandoms. Just 10 fics that I love.

Increments of Longing by QuickYoke: Though I've read fic off and on for a number of years, this is the first fic that I loved as much as I loved my favorite books. The story is built well, the tension is built just right, and everything really pays off in the end. I'd only read a smattering of Jaina/Sylvanas fics before this, but it made me search out a lot more. Warcraft & World of Warcraft fandom | Jaina Proudmoore/Sylvanas Windrunner

of greater marvels yet to be by seabiscuit: I'm a sucker for religious questioning and queer desire. The build up is sooooo good, so many scenes felt so palpable. As a former Very Religious Kid(TM) who has a lot of complicated feelings about it, this did such a good job of holding the religious pieces gently in its hands while also not shying away from how complicated it makes everything and sometimes how uncomplicated it makes everything. Equilibrium by caesurae: If someone had told me I'd ever read a Pacific Rim crossover I would have laughed. Especially if they told me that I would love it. The characters just really work here and I think it does a good job of showing how people can connect and love and understand each other even when it's not romantic. Overwatch fandom | Pharah/Mercy

the spectres vain by QuickYoke: this was the fic that got me into the Bly Manor fandom. I had really liked the show, but hadn't really explored much in the fandom. But I subscribe to QuickYoke and I got a notification about this fic and loved it. And then I loved many a Bly fic after. The Haunting of Bly Manor fandom | Dani Clayton/Jamie & Dani Clayton/Viola Lloyd/Jamie

i broke my bones playing games with you by mooosicaldreamz: I love Peggy Carter, and though Peggy/Angie isn't actually my favorite pairing, I think it's a great one. This is just a nice little modern day AU where Peggy is Captain America (written before we had our Captain Carter) and she meets Angie and they eventually fall in love. Agent Carter fandom | Peggy Carter/Angie Martinelli

not quite enemies, not quite allies by afterism: Peggy/Dottie is my favorite Peggy Carter pairing, though it doesn't necessarily lend itself to very longform fics. It's just smut, but I think it's a good enemies to lovers that moves very quickly and ends really believably. And kind of makes me wish there was more fic to go with it. Agent Carter fandom | Peggy Carter/Dottie Underwood

there's a funeral in your eyes by nirav: I love this for everything that goes through Ava's mind as she is dealing with the person she loves being possessed and trying to kill her. I really love this scene being reimagined as if Beatrice had been possessed, and I especially love how this fic does it. Warrior Nun fandom | Ava Silva/Sister Beatrice

Three Nights by lecriteuse: In Dragon Age: Origins I've always had my warden romance Leliana. She's my favorite character, I like having her around as much as possible no matter what game I'm playing. But when I met Josephine and had her tell me a bit of her background, I restarted my game and made it so my warden had never romanced Leliana so I could let her and Josephine have a go at it before Inquisition. This fic does a great job of putting that into writing. Dragon Age: Inquisition fandom | Leliana/Josephine Montilyet

who needs comfortable love by the_ominous_owl: This was just a really fun take on the Warrior Nun mythology. And a really well thought out and written play on it. Considering we'll only have the two seasons, this slots in really nicely to the gaps of questions left behind. It's also really cute. Warrior Nun fandom | Ava Silva/Sister Beatrice

bring home a haunting by QuickYoke and youngbloodbuzz: If the spectres vain is what got me into the Bly Manor fandom, then this is what made me stay. I looked forward to this fic every week, often staying up very late as the chapters got longer. This is the fic I return to when I finish a rewatch because it does a really good job of conveying a lot of the same emotions and themes. Bly Manor's big theme of ghost stories and love stories being the same thing is really, really present here: what if the the ghosts of our past came back and our emotions continued to haunt us until we confronted them? 10 Naruto Fanwork Recommendations for International Fanworks Day!

In honour of the 10th International Fanworks Day, I'm participating in the OTW's Feedback Fest with my top 10 recommended fanworks in the Naruto fandom!

Snapdragon and Crane by Good_Grief Senju Tobirama/Uchiha Izuna, romance An absolutely beautiful and gentle love story from an astounding author, I cannot recommend it highly enough!

Idiots Of Unusual Size by Asuka Kureru (Askerian) No pairing, comedy Borrowing the concept of daemons from the His Dark Materials trilogy, this is a rollicking read that will have you laughing out loud!

To Whom It May Concern by honks Senju Tobirama/Uchiha Madara, comedy An absolutely hilarious modern AU, this is the knitting AU that begged to be written!

Without Reservation by WrithingBeneathYou Senju Tobirama/Uchiha Hikaku, romance Hikaku is one of my favourite characters and this gorgeously written romance gives his perspective the chance to shine. This pairing is tremendously under appreciated and I'm so glad WBY wrote for them!

I'm powerful (with a little bit of tender) by SilverUtahraptor Senju Tobirama/Uchiha Izuna, romance This f/f collection shows off this author's incredible ability to convey emotion within the tight limits of the drabble format, and they are very much worth a read! Go for it!

Ghost Bride by drelfina and Lively Groom by CreativeSweets Uchiha Madara/Senju Tobirama, Senju Tobirama/Uchiha Izuna, romance A set of paired works that depict what might have happened after Tobirama killed Izuna, told in parallel from two different perspectives, these stories are a meditation on what it means to live, die, and be happy.

Growth Spurt by dahtwitchi No pairing, comedy Wonderfully drawn, full of laughs and life, this comic shows what the Senju and Uchiha siblings can really do when they work together, much to everyone's surprise! (And someone's disgruntlement. 😝)

Innovation and Credit by drelfina No pairing, comedy A hysterically funny East Asian take on ghost busting that I love, I nearly died laughing at this one!

Konoha Fashion by Maeko Senju Tobirama/Uchiha Madara, romantic comedy Stunning fashion, a pitch perfect romantic comedy, spectacular art… there's nothing here that I don't love!

The Narutrix Re-ninja'd by ManyLemons Productions A fusion of Naruto and the Matrix, this AMV won several awards after it was released in 2004 and it's still one of my favourite AMVs of all time.
