Bonus scene #1: Nighttime Strolls
Felix smirked, quickly sprinting into the bushes, outside of the capitol entrance, these sunlight guards were getting easier and easier to trick.
After taking a few moments to catch his breath and check he wasn’t being followed, he stepped out of the underbrush, taking a look around the woods in the evening light.
Kishin should be around here somewhere…
“Kiissshhhinnnnnn!” Felix called out, wandering around the starlit forest, wondering where his horned friend was.
It was a chilly yet peaceful night, a soft breeze blowing through the Cosmotellaris woodland. Most citizens of the capital would have found the night eerie and dangerous, away from sunlight protection. But for Felix, it was freedom, no senseless rules and no scrutinizing eyes watching him constantly.
It wasn’t exactly hard to find Kishin to be honest, just follow the trail of uprooted plants whether it be the smallest daisy or the largest oak.
This evening, it seemed the oak was the victim, Kishin was sitting on a rock, contentedly finishing the tree before snacking on the bark as if they were chips.
Felix chuckled softly, watching his friend snack. “There you are.”
Kishin perked up seeing the teen, swallowing the last of his tree bark before speaking “Felix! There you are, I was wondering what took you so long.
“Yeah sorry… I uh- had something that held me up at home.” Felix replied, quick to think of a better reason than trying to stay on his temperamental father’s good side.
Kishin hopped up from the rock he was sitting on before grabbing Felix’s wrist, guiding him along. “You’re here now. Now let’s go, my favorite species of sunflower just came into season and I wanna find some!”
Following the kebula, Felix let out a small huff of laughter, leave it to Kishin to lighten the mood via his cravings. “Didn’t you just eat a whole tree?? How in the name of the universe are you still hungry?”
Kishin looked back with a small pout “That was just to hold me over till we got the sunflowers!”
It had been a fun yet chaotic evening, the two had wandered for a bit before finding a field with Kishin’s sunflowers, everything was fine.
However as he was helping Kishin pick flowers, Felix saw a gray konster nearby and immediately wanted to pet it, grabbing out dog treats from his fanny pack, hoping to tame it with snacks.
Luckily Kishin noticed before Felix could get too close, whisking him away from the beast, much to Felix’s disappointment.
As they returned to their usual clearing, Felix looked up at the stars, the beings he loved so dearly before looking over to Kishin who was happily munching on sunflowers.
“Kishin? What do you think of the constellations..?”
Kishin looked up, nearly choking on a sunflower head “-The constellations? Why??”
“Do you think they listen to us? That if I worked really hard to prove myself, they would hear?” Felix asked, looking slightly embarrassed about the question.
The kebula sighed and set down his sunflowers before looking up at the night sky. “ to be honest, I’m not sure. I’m not the biggest believer in the constellations. Who knows, maybe there are people in the sky who give people powers, maybe it’s genetic.”
“I just know that I’m not going to spend my life wishing on a star. Already tried that.” Kishin replied earnestly.
After hearing Kishin’s response, Felix shrinks into himself a little, feeling stupid for asking. “Oh… okay.” Was all he said in response, silently berating himself for asking something so silly.
Watching Felix, Kishin frowned slightly, he didn’t want to bum the kid out, but he also didn’t want to just smile and lie to him either. The teen deserved better than that.
“It’s okay to have different beliefs you know. I know the constellations mean a lot to you.” Kishin sighed again before continuing, “Just remember, you can wait around forever waiting for wishes on shooting stars. So go live the life of your choice rather than waiting for some star god to save you.”
“For example,” Kishin pulled out his wedding ring from under his vest, his expression visibly softening at the simple band of metal “ I found people who I care about, and held them close.”
Felix looked up at his friend, at the ring he held so gingerly. “Was it Irina?” He asked softly, watching the kebula reminisce.
Kishin nodded, smiling softly. “It was her that saved me… call me crazy, but based off of what you’ve told me, I think you’ve found your person too.”
Felix could feel his face heat up “my what??”
“Your person, or people for that matter. What did you think I was saying?” Kishin replied with a little chuckle.
“Oh. Uhm… nothing.”
They sat there in silence for a few minutes, listening to the sound of the wind.
Felix smiled, thinking of all the people he had met in these past months, people who always made his day shine just a little brighter.
Irina, Sebastian, Kishin, and Anton… especially Anton. Felix didn’t know what he would do without his best friend.
“Thank you Kishin… that helped a lot.”
Kishin smiled before biting into another sunflower, “Anytime.”
