#Repost @maidenandcrow with @instarepost2016 ・・・ “The life of the dead is placed in the memory of the living.” - Marcus Tullius Roman Halliween Parentalia (Ancestral Days) is a religious Roman festival to honour the dead. Beginning at noon on February 13th until February 21st, it is a time for celebration of the rites of ancestors and family members who have passed on. On the last day of Parentalia, the Feralia took over and this was held publically, during which visits to the tombs of dead relatives occurred. A ritual act that many pantheons and cultures exercise still. The Feralia was considered a time for grieving and mourning which is why weddings were banned during this time and public worship of the gods was suspended at the temples. No incense was burned on any altars and hearth fires were left unlit to show respect and Magistrates did not wear their insignias. On this day, Romans travelled to the tombs of their ancestors (“Manes”). They brought offerings like wreaths, grain, salt, and wine soaked bread. These offerings would be left in the tomb they would be visiting. Violets would be placed around and in the tombs. Wealthy families of Rome would arrange bountiful public feasts at the tombs to honour ancestors and a means of paying the gods of the Underworld. Many believe that The Feralia is likely the catalyst for the creation of Samhain and All Saints Day. At midnight on Feralia, rituals were intended to control baneful entities and force them to return to the spirit world for another year. If someone did not follow the rites of Feralia it could lead to these spirits lingering where they would manifest as ghosts and bring tragedy and bad luck throughout the coming year. So for those of you, like myself, who are being called to pierce the veil and jump the hedge, tonight is your night. 17/09/2015 05:32:08 I never got to see the end of my first pet dog's life. I don't know how/when she died, and it bothers me so much that I cry about it despite it probably 6+ years ago. that dog guided me through so many formative, sensitive years where I was treated so horribly and I never got to say goodbye to her, I feel like I wasn't there for her because of my stupid family turmoil and that it was unfair. I want to tell her I'm sorry. I wish I could see her one more time.
Feralia - Ultima requies
ENGLISH VERSION BELOW: PLEASE, SCROLL DOWN!
Feralia are a Stockholm-based Italian black metal band whose style is rooted in the second wave, but whose proggy synths distinguish them from other melodic/atmospheric black metal projects. Their third album Ultima Requies will be released on June 26th by ATMF.
