Re: Making fun of booktok, I feel like the post you rebooted is missing a vital piece of information, anti-intellectualism amongst book readers has been growing especially amongst the people that read these romance novels…

So I just found this video on my youtube and I think it partially addresses what you're saying.

I personally don't follow many booktokkers, the majority of those I follow are bipoc. I know that there's a lot of booktokkers like the ones at the beginning of her video do exist (0:30ish mark) but like you gotta realize that there's two different sides of booktok. There's the anti intellectualists that got into reading because of books like 50 shades of grey, colleen hoover, and sarah j maas (so ww books).

And then there's booktokkers like tomes and textiles (latina booktokker that focuses on latine books always and is very political) there's others too if you want recommendations.

there are smart and politically progressive romance writers out there like natalie cana, alyssa cole and talia hibbert (here's a review I did on one of Natalie Cana's)

you can't lump all romance readers/writers all together.

Honestly rnm thing seems very much like ppl don't get watsonian Vs doylist. *Maria* was not being homophobic but the *creative team* behind the decision to make this scene should be called out. all criticism should be directed at the creative team (writers, directors, producers aka decision makers) and not at the character or actor.

what do you think about spapel in star trek snw? it's weird to think later spock will totally reject her, he used to be cold with christine in TOS

this is a controversial opinion but I kinda hated that we didn't get more of T'Pring x Spock. Like I would have loved to see them even more through season three (fully aware I'm behind on season 3 lol).

also I was never a TOS fan. Like there's episodes I'll rewatch because they're Uhura or sulu heavy but I don't really care for TOS being so cis white male centric. at my core I'm in love with AOS Spuhura, and rooting for SNW slowburn Spuhura.

I know that's not what you want but the thing I hate about SNW chapel is that she's literally a manic pixie dream girl. Like don't get me wrong I love her to bits and really appreciate that she's got strong female friendships but... I never watched star trek for the romance. not to say there's no room for romance in trek I just think the ultimate romances in Trek is literally Deana x Worf. I WAS SO ANGRY WHEN THEY HAD DEANA MARRY RIKER. little kid me was shipping deana/worf like so hard. (I kinda held it against ds9 too for a brief while).

Imagine a reboot of H2O : Just Add Water except that this time, the three main characters are Indigenous Australian girls and their culture and its mythology are at the center of the show. And we get more consistency when it comes to the mermaid lore and plot.

just fyi bds has called for a boycott of marvel and the mcu. if we are going to criticize people rightly for not boycotting starbucks we should be consistent. iirc they have not called for a boycott of disney but have called for a pressure campaign, but I may be wrong.

So I know a lot of people see Carol Danvers as a lesbian and honestly me too but I've been playing Marvel's Midnight Suns lately (haven't finished it yet so not sure how it ends) and Blade is in it, he has a crush on Carol and it's kinda adorable, he made a book club to spend more time with her and learn more about her interests and stuff but he was kinda nervous so he invites the player and Captain America and it's just really cute.

Honestly I feel like Carol is only lesbian coded in the mcu but in the comics I know she's had boyfriends so I feel like there she's bi/pan. Rip meee I don't think my old laptop can handle Marvels Midnight Suns!!!

I’m still surprised that they made Angelica Ross, a Black trans woman, play an evil, murderous woman targeting an « innocent » cis white woman played by Emma Roberts in AHS : 1984 and apparently nobody saw how wrong this was?? They should have switched the roles. AHS and Ryan Murphy have a huge problem when it comes to representation for Black women because they’re always depicted as aggressive and scary (especially when they’re dark-skinned)

so I stopped watching ahs a while ago but that is so freaking messed up. like the only reason emma roberts is cast as the innocent cis white woman is because she fulfills the look of one. meanwhile didn't she literally beat evan peters a few years ago??? (also she's a nepo baby so)

ryan murphy is shit and I hope he rots for doing that to angelica ross. (also he kept working on ahs during the strike so he can go choke).

i'm concerned about this new kind of trend in the mcu where they kill off female characters from the first three phases in a lot of the post endgame films and shows. Like the mcu can introduce more female characters without killing off those that have been in the mcu since the first six films (idk if that makes sense). (I'm referring to Aunt May, Jane Foster, Queen Ramonda and Maria Hill)

I totally see what you're saying. Like that's just the nonproblematic women there's also the whitewashed scarlet witch. and in gotg alone we're probably not gonna see gamora, nebula or mantis again.
