Charlotte “Chuck” Charles has dreamed all her life of seeing the world, but the first time she leaves home and her aunts Lily and Vivian, she is murdered and thrown off the side of a ship.
Ned and private investigator Emerson Cod have a racket that involves Ned bringing people back to life long enough for Emerson to find out how they died and “solve” the crime, but when Ned finds that Chuck, his childhood sweetheart, is their next client, he can’t bring himself to send her back to the dead. Thus, Ned and Chuck begin a relationship that is marred by the fact that they can never touch, but their adventures in solving murders, baking pies, and raising bees almost make up for their lack of physical contact. Almost.
