FIGHTING CRIME: MORE SAFETY IN PRISONS - GOVERNMENT DETERMINES THE END OF ENERGY POINTS IN AND AROUND CELLS
Prison inmates across the country will no longer have access to power outlets and power points in and around their cells. The measure increases security in prisons and reduces the articulation of criminals within prisons.
Resolution No. 16/21, of the National Council for Criminal and Penitentiary Policy, an agency of the Ministry of Justice and Public Security, recommends that the states and the Federal District carry out mapping within 60 days for the gradual removal of points that can be used by criminals to charge cell phones and electronic devices.
“The norm aims to inhibit, in the first place, the use of cell phones by inmates and, thus, to achieve a means of action for organized crime and criminal factions,” explained Márcio Schiefler Fontes, president of the National Council for Criminal and Penitentiary Policy.
