Sunfire AU where Hiro's captured and experimented on and he escapes by melting through the metal room he was kept in. Then, although he can't remember much, he ends up at the Lucky Cat. It takes days for the drug interfering with his memory to work its way out of his system, so there is a lot of angst and then he starts to remember. It's only when Baymax is working well enough to scan him that the brothers realise why Hiro's memory is so spotty and why the stuff he remembers is so random.
Bonus for the sunfire Hiro thing I sent in yesterday: Hiro is also on a related drug that mucks with his short to long term memory conversion so he only has five minutes of memory. After the fiftieth time he asks the SAME QUESTION Tadashi just printed out a thing with all the questions he kept asking and their answers on it. That drug goes through his system faster so he can actually form memories properly by midway through Day Two of being back
Oh god, I am fighting healthcare mode SO VERY HARD right now. Because MEDICATIONS THAT’S MY THING MEDS MEDS YEEEESSS.
Okay, now that that’s out of the way. I wonder if Hiro actually found his way to the Lucky Cat by chance? Or if the drug only affects certain kinds of memory. He might not remember his own name or who Baymax and the others are, but the drug can’t eliminate his muscle memory, so the moment he hits the streets his feet are already carrying him home.
And THAT’S what convinces him that he can trust Tadashi and his friends. Because while he might see these people as strangers, somehow he already knows where this Aunt Cass person keeps the spoons in the kitchen. Or which shelf in the garage lab has the textbook on mechanical engineering. Or exactly how their cat likes to be scratched under the chin.
He learns pretty quickly (based on Tadashi’s exasperation and the print out) that his memories might be messed up, but his muscle memory is helping to keep him calm. Because while his mind might not remember, his body sure does.
Aaaaand as the memory loss is a direct cause of the drug, it’ll wear off eventually based on the drug’s half-life and NO BAD MEDICINE BRAIN. BAD. NO SCIENCING THE AU.
