My first therapy appointment in about a year is today. Its in a couple hours.

The billing department caused me so much grief and confusion when I was double checking what I'd be charged... Which you would think they wouldn't since its a damn therapy office.

Anyway... I hope it goes well... I've been writing down things I want to talk about... and have been wanting to talk about for a while now.

I set up my first gender therapy appt!!!!!

I’m so so excited! It so unreal I cant believe I’ve finally gotten this step and I am on my way to transition and fully be me. September 23rd!!!!!! Roughly 6 weeks away! Super super super excited!!!!!

Had my first gic appointment today and I got my top surgery refferal and it’s for dr yelland!! Thank god he’s back on nhs

First Appointment

Megan woke on Friday morning with a mix of fear, anxiety and excitement as she realised this was the day they were going to have everything checked.  She went downstairs and poured herself a big glass of orange juice but the thought of food itself made her feel quite nauseous so she sat down with her juice and flicked through one of the baby books she had bought.  Looking up with a smile when Michael came in she took a moment before she spoke, “So the appointment is at 3 and my last client leaves at 2 so are you coming to pick me up or should I just meet you at the doctors?”

I have my first appointment with GIC in July and I was wondering what kinda things they ask or do in the first appointments and how long do I have to talk to them before until I am able to go on T Thanks a bunch

You will probably be asked some or all of the following:

Why you’re there and what you hope to gain from your appointments and treatment at the GIC

Medical/surgical history (sometimes they ask for details of mental/physical illness in your immediate family too)

Social history (including experience of childhood, relationship with your family, education, and your experience of your gender and when you realised you were trans)

Mental health history

Whether you’re currently or have in the past had any treatment for gender dysphoria (including self medicating)

Criminal history, drug abuse or addictions

Whether you are out to friends, family, partners etc, whether they are supportive, whether you are living full time as male/have legally changed your name etc.

You may be asked about your sexuality and sexual history

How informed you are about transition/what your current thoughts are about what treatment you want

Whether you have considered fertility

You should also get told a bit about how things work there, and if you’re not then you should have opportunity to ask any questions that you have.  If you have any paperwork regarding transition (e.g. name change document) then it would be helpful to take this too.

It usually takes 6–12 months of appointments before they commence any treatment; the exact times will depend on the GIC as they all have slightly different processes.
