I took Florinef today for the first time and I felt really strange so I checked my vitals and??? My pulse was at 88 bpm resting and oxygen was at 96. My resting bpm is usually between 115 and 125 depending on how my body wants to act. I have not had a reading below 100 bpm since I was 13 (and I am almost 22 now)............ like even when I sleep, it dropped to 100-110 and that was it. The cardiologist said the Florinef can take like 2 weeks to build up and work but is this norma?? My heart feels so slow, I am kinda scared that it is gonna stop.

Have any of you been on fludrocortisone? (Also called uhh Florinef apparently??) my cardiologist put me on it and the stuff on google is spooky

Hey, I just found your Tumblr through imthegirlthat. I also struggle with POTS. I am curious, are you on any medication for this? I was just recently diagnosed by my family practitioner who does not know much about the illiness. She said we can educate each other but we both have to do our research. Thank you so much!

I am currently on propranalol for tremors and prozac for depression, both which seem to help POTS slightly. I have tried fludrocortisone and midodrine with no real success. Honestly, IV saline helps me the most. I also started an exercise plan with a physical therapist that we are hoping will help. I would recommend the book "The Dysautonomia Project" for any new potsies and their doctors. Hopefully you find a good treatment for you. My first doctors told me to google POTS, so thats how I found out a majority of what I know about it.

Cardiologist appointment update

This doctor knows his shit. FINALLY I will be starting medication to treat my POTS. I will be starting florinef. If any of you guys have had this medication how did it work for you? Did you feel any improvement with your POTS? Please let me know!

I’m worried that with the increase of Florinef I’m doing (going from .1 to .2) that I’m going to gain a bunch of weight, because I gained a little with the 0.1. I’m really comfortable with my body where it’s at; I feel like I’ll have a hard time accepting myself if I gain weight because my stupid always-there-even-though-I’m-recovered eating disorder brain says I am only acceptable and lovable at a certain weight. What a bunch of bullshit. But try telling that to her. That bitch doesn’t listen.

Anyone get bradycardia with Florinef? It’s been real hard to breathe tonight and i have a low pulse.

It’s a #compressionstockings kinda day. I was out of my #fludrocortisone aka #florinef for a couple days and then we had a heat spike so my #orthostatichypotension has been acting up today. I’ve been very nauseated and with a headache, trying to keep fluids up when I feel this nauseated is always a feat 😑 but I AM trying and my dad did visit and bring me my prescriptions this morning so hopefully I feel a lot better tomorrow. But for now we’re rocking the compression #thighhighs and trying to keep moving. I don’t like the high waisted ones when my stomach is bothering me even though they probably work better and I don’t have to fight so hard with them rolling... but meh... at least they are cute compression stockings... I wish more companies made medically assistive garments, etc more wearable and integrative into regular fashion... it would honestly make it so much easier to be compliant if my braces and supports just blended in...

what medications were you taking for POTS that caused migraines?

(For whatever reason I can’t actually tag you--my apologies.) I was on a few different medications at the time, but as soon as I stopped taking Florinef (also known as fludrocortisone), my migraines went away. It was almost immediate--I mean, I had been getting them pretty frequently, so I definitely noticed when they weren’t there anymore. However, I’m that POTS patient that hasn’t had any luck with medications--none of them have been able to help me at all, and I’m pretty sensitive with side-effects. Florinef works for lots of people, so don’t knock it until you’ve tried it! (But do pay attention to these sorts of things, because it is important to listen to your body.)
