Thursday 23 November 2017
The Camellia sasanqua flowers from late autumn and this species is a native of southern Japan, where this species was traditionally used for oil derived from the large seeds. The flowers of this evergreen tree or shrub are fragrant and have been described as having a "delicate tea fragrance". The plants require a moisture-retentive but well-drained soil, preferably acidic. This cultivar was Camellia sasanqua ‘Rossa’ which has been grown as a standard pleached specimen.
