chiburahakkai on twitter has a great thread on what makes the lutz more difficult than a flip, and how excessive pre-rotation affects the mechanics of the jump.

basically, the outside edge creates a curve opposite to the direction the skater jumps.

in these gifs, you can clearly see the mark the outside edge take-off makes on the ice. rika then jumps in the direction opposite of the momentum. this is what makes the lutz harder than the flip

however, some skaters have an incorrect lutz take-off: a change of edge and/or too much pre-rotation create a second curve on the ice that's more like the curve created by the inside edge of a flip

in that way, a pre-rotated lutz is almost like a flutz

This is appalling and is the epitome of false information. That RusFed officer needs to be banned from judging because this is literally a danger to the sport of figure skating. Whoever hearted her comment can leave too.

he's on a flat-ish edge while his picking leg stretches back and starts lowering. the shot of the outside edge is from victor; you can tell from the color of the skates and pants lol.

so until i see evidence of yuri k's outside edge lutz, im taking this as evidence that he has a flutz lmao.

like first of all, the edge looks unclear or even, dare i say it, inside.

second, what is with his toepick? why does it look like the entire blade is on the ice. does christophe have a flooptz? 😭
