The familiar ache in his joints began to work its way through his body, and Samsoo reached up to rub a hand against the back of his neck, trying to soothe it as much as he could. Even after ten years of training and building up stamina, the intense choreography that Unity did still took its toll on his body, and they didn’t perform only one song, but several, including a cover. He enjoyed performing though, so he wasn’t complaining. There was a pain relief pill waiting back at Unity’s dorm with his name on it though, and he was looking forward to taking it.
He blinked once, noticing that the person in front of him was staring at him, waiting for him to finish what he had been saying. He hadn’t realized he had cut himself off mid sentence, and he frowned slightly. “Sorry, I must have let my thoughts get away from me.” Which was only half true. He shook his head, as though he were clearing said thoughts out, before looking at them with a small smile on his face.
“I was asking if you wanted to get some food? I’m starving and I could use a bite to eat.” He hadn’t eaten since that morning, a mistake on his part. He knew you were never supposed to not eat before a performance, but it must have slipped his mind.

Large events with so many big names in the industry in attendance had always put Trevor on edge. With the reputation that Knight had garnered for themselves, and the reputation that he himself, had made interacting with them difficult and slightly awkward. There was nothing worse than talking to someone who you knew had a negative opinion of you and your group. Sure their music was praised and they’d won many awards, but that didn’t stop people from seeing them in a bad light.
He looked down at his half empty champagne glass. Four of those, and half of that one, and he was barely beginning to feel buzzed. What kind of alcohol were they serving at that event? He rolled his eyes and gulped down the rest of the champagne before setting the glass on top of one of the waiter’s trays. He glanced around the area, making sure no one had their attention focused on him, before he made a beeline for the exit.
He had been standing out there for about five minutes, halfway through his cigarette, when the door opened and someone stepped outside into the cool, night air next to him. “You needed a break too, huh?” He asked, glancing over at them.

as the night moved on, the gala seemed to stay in full swing, even though its end was quickly approaching. jihoon glanced at his watch - just fifty more minutes left. he could make it, couldn’t he? he let out a loud yawn that luckily didn’t catch the attention of anyone else in the surrounding area. definitely couldn’t make it. he had long since meandered away from the most intense section of the party, slinking off to the sidelines where the tables were set up and he could sit down. he had been up since early that morning to get ready for the gala. being in a group of thirteen guys meant hours of hair and makeup and getting dressed, and it wasn’t like you could sleep before your turn or after your turn either.
he wanted nothing more than to go back to charm’s dorm and go to bed. they would have to get up even earlier the next morning because of a fansigning event they had in busan. as much as he loved seeing their charmings, he would love to be able to sleep in sometime soon. he knew the day where he could was quickly approaching - just two more days. he had to make it two more days. he rested his chin on the palm of his hand, his eyes drooping slightly until they closed. he wasn’t sure how long he had bordered between consciousness and sleep, but the sound of a chair being pulled out next to him made his head pop up and he looked over at whoever had sat down. “hi - you enjoying the party?” he asked, hoping that conversation would help keep him awake.
dec. 15 ; dimensions united concert at jamsil arena ; 6:32pm.
concerts reeked of adrenaline, of freed teenage excitement for their favourite bands (that they end up screaming louder than what’s being sung and ruin the musical experience) and of too many people gathered in one place, fueling or draining others with saturated, nauseating ebullience. hyunmi was already burned out entering the arena. viewing a concert as an idol was all sorts of taxing. cheery appearances had to be maintained, clapping and lip-syncing to songs for the mere deception that idols were eternally bright and loving to one another. this was no olympus with apollo’s lyre humming (even the greek gods were subjected to feud).
no contacts, no glasses, hyunmi was furious (at herself) for playing a vital role in ruining her own night. there was no point in being at a concert if she couldn’t see (and only heard the bloodd-curling shrieks of unconstrained fans). someone, put her out of her misery.
hyunmi entered the washrooms backstage to freshen up (and to get away from the monstrous pterodactyl cries). being famous came with ups and downs. at the moment, hyunmi was seeing monotone, then a low-key recognizable face. “ah, the one who abandoned BEE.” maybe it was her frustration or inability to keep her mouth shut (rigorous lessons in how an idol should behaved went over her head one too many times), but hyunmi slipped in up the presence of fiona (perhaps the mere presence of the senior idol unraveled the loose knots around her lips).

one peaceful night, was that really too much to ask for? just for once, no hecticness or running around. jaewon hadn’t expected much from the event, just some sitting around, chatting with other idols, having a few drinks, nothing too thrilling while pretending to care about dimensions kissing its own ass and constantly boasting about how incredible they were doing.
unfortunately, as unity’s leader, the company had decided he’d have to give a speech too at the event. nothing too intense, only a minute or two at the most but what he was allowed to say was so heavily regulated that jaewon had quickly grown to despise the task. still, even if he was everything but happy about it, the speech itself still required minimal time and effort.
losing said speech however, yeah that was a whole lote more demanding.
jaewon wasn’t exactly sure how it had happened, one minute the sheet of paper had been safely tucked away in the inner pocket of his suit jacket and the next it was suddenly gone, nowhere to be found or seen. now it was time for panic.
as casually as possible (after all, the last thing he needed was one of the higher-ups questioning why he looked so stressed out) he made his way around the ballroom, eyes scanning various tables for any sign of the paper. it was then he spotted a familiar face, fiona, and with a slightly quicker step, he made his way over to the girl. if anyone were to help him it was one of his labelmates right? “noona, i need your help.” he muttered under his breath to make sure no one was listening in. “i managed to lose my speech somehow and i have about 45 minutes to find it before management kills me, please help me.”
It was a not-so-well-kept secret that Moonjin wasn't particularly fond of Dimensions Entertainment after his bad luck, as he called it now, always with a sharp tinge of bitterness, with them in the past, which was why he had ever so regrettably opted out of whatever part of these festivities he could. Their success was all nice and good, it didn't bother him much. It wasn't like the people signed with them were any worse than those under other companies, his rationality told him. The entire industry was a twisted game of I spy with my little eye and he was not so naive as to believe that companies or even groups could be separated into 'good' and 'bad'. That simply wasn't how the world worked, which, however, didn't change the fact that he felt out of place among the group of people he used to call friends, those who used to evaluate him, train him and promise him a bright future, and those he had never even had a proper conversation with.
Ironically (or not, really, was this not just his luck?), no one he currently considered himself close to was within his proximity, so when a particular Dimensions executive Moonjin really didn't want to have a conversation with about why he had dropped everything and left their oh-so-lovely company back then, about whether or not he regretted it now, looking at these big scale events and their roster of prestigious names in the idol and acting business, he was left with no choice but to pretend he was immensely busy socializing with someone else.
“Hey,” he greeted the person he identified as a fellow idol – the one with the highest likelihood of sympathizing with him, though he had never been good at sizing someone up in one glance –, with a warm, friendly tone of voice and a very slight bow of his head that seemed lacking in comparison. It was all he could offer, though, for he was trying to make it seem as though they were already close and caught up in a conversation, after all. “If you would be so kind as to pretend to be my friend for a couple of minutes, I'd really owe you one.” Hasty promises never meant much, he reprimanded himself, even less in a place like this, even less with the smell of alcohol much too sweet for his taste in the air all around them. Yet he was in a bit of a hurry – desperate, even, though he wouldn't admit it. Save me, he should have said. “And I never break my word,” he did say.
as a member of one of the more quickly forgotten-about groups around, daeun didn’t find herself invited to an excess of red carpet/black tie events. but the past year for her individually had been packed, between REIGN, her solo mini-album, and leading role in strong woman do bong soon. she had more of a name for herself, and as a member of dimension’s oldest group, the anniversary gala was the perfect opportunity to dress her up in a designer dress, all velvet and lace with just enough skin showing. she felt like a present, all wrapped up and complete with a bow, and daeun loved it. she rarely got an opportunity to dress up, and despite the fact that she couldn’t stop fidgeting with the bow around her neck (much to her managers chagrin), she was enjoying every moment. free alcohol and food, all of her friends around, what could be better?
well, it could be better. she had been avoiding one of the executives at dimension’s all night. he had already cornered her once, telling her how pretty she looked and even daring to place a hand on her shoulder before one of her members had called her over and gave her a reason to escape. she had caught the man lingering near her, and she was far too nice to ask him to let her be, especially since it was someone above her. it looked as if he was planning to strike again, so daeun did the only thing she could think of and grabbed the arm of the person closest to her.
“please talk to me,” she asked, not even bothering to see who she was talking to first. “i’m trying to avoid someone, and if he sees me talking to you, maybe he’ll leave me alone.”
