Kinky Pie Episode 9 Review

I always hate when episodes end on a stressful note and are accompanied by an even more stressful preview, because it makes it hard to think about everything else that happened. I guess I'll just try to focus on the fact that I know this show will have a happy ending.

Anyways, I liked this episode, by and large. Let's start with what I didn't like.

I'm feeling very over Yi and Diao. There's only so much drama that stems from one character being incapable of articulating their feelings that I can take before I become bored and annoyed, and my threshold for that from Yi passed a couple episodes back. I suppose I like that Diao is standing up for himself. Also, Diao's father seems to know whatever it is that Yi did that Yi is trying to make up for, and Diao's lack of questioning it makes me think that he does too, so I'm unclear as to why exactly Yi is acting like Diao doesn't know. I mean, I get that that's supposed to be a mystery, but I feel like they've dragged it out a little too long. And, given that instead of talking to him, Yi just bought Diao a dog, I'm not optimistic about the chances of it being resolved anytime soon.

Lian and Kuea are cute. So very, very cute. But I don't like a) the fact that Kuea seems to have gone for blushing maiden and keeps withdrawing when Lian attempts to kiss him, and b) that Lian doesn't stop when Kuea protests. It undermines the beautiful consensuality(don't red underline me, Chrome, it's a word if I say it's a word) of their initial sex scene.

Other than that, this episode was charming.

Foie was great, as always. I can't get over how much I love his relationship with Lian. I stand by my assertion that Lian likes him more than he pretends to. He seemed a little too concerned when Foie tripped.

I loved getting to spend some time with Kuea's friend group, and the shy glances Syn and Nuer keep sharing are adorable. Could've gone without the soccer scene, but at least it ended quickly.

I loved all the little domestic moments between Lian and Kuea, from the cooking lessons, to the jogging, to the bath time. I liked that we got a little bit of background on Lian. He definitely did have a more modest upbringing than I initially thought, though I wish the show had seen fit to tell us how Lian's family knew Kuea's.

New and Zee's chemistry is still mindblowing.

Next episode it looks like we get to deal with the fall out from Lian buying up the Keerati properties without explaining himself to Kuea. I love this show, I do, but I think it relies far too heavily on secrets and misunderstandings to drive the story.
