    “Marius, what are you doing here?” you questioned the young man that had showed up at your window in the middle of the night.

    For a moment, he just gazed at you and smiled. “I needed to see you.”

    “A-about what?” you stuttered. You stepped aside, allowing Marius into your room.

    Marius crouched down to step in, and when he straightened, he was barely an inch from you. A smirk twitched across his lips. “I would like to court you, if you would allow me.”

    Whispering his name in shock, you took a step back from him. Once you got your breathing under control, you stated, “...We can’t.”

    He shortened the distance between the two of you by stepping forward again. “Yes, we can. Y/n, please--”

    “I could never do that to you,” you nearly whimpered.

    Somehow even quieter, but still loud enough for you to hear, Marius pleaded, “No, don’t cry. Please, don’t cry. My love--”

    “Don’t call me that!” you suddenly exploded, pulling away from the young man once more. “Marius, you’re supposed to live in a nice home with a lovely woman that’s just as rich as you! You’re not supposed to...” you trailed off, afraid of the following words.

    Marius knew what you were going to say. “What?” he almost wanted you to say it, but he also knew you couldn’t. Not just yet, at least. “Fall in love with you? Well, I have. I’ve known that I love you for nearly a month now. I want to be with you.” Once more, he stepped forward, this time cupping both of your cheeks with each of his hands.

    For the first time that night, you didn’t fight him. Instead, you leaned into Marius’s touch. “You deserve so much more than me,” you thought out loud.

    Another smirk flashed across his features. “Darling, I believe you have that backwards. It is you who merits the whole of the galaxy.”

    You couldn’t help it. You were quiet, but a real laugh escaped your lips.

    His smile finally stayed. “I love that sound,” he admitted.

    “And I love you,” you confessed at last.

    “It is a bit ironic to have someone who doesn’t drink at all working in a tavern,” Marius observed as he took a seat at his usual table.

    Smiling, you set his usual drink down in front of him. “You’re right. However, it is the only job I could get. I needed the money, Marius.”

    The boy laughed, “They pay you money here?”

    “Enough...,” you sighed.

    Marius seemed unsatisfied with your answer. The both of you left the subject where it was, though. You carried on with your shift.

    Two hours later, something had been bugging you for nearly that entire time. Finally, you got a chance to do something about it.

    “Why have you been staring at me all night?” you inquired as you found a chair next to Marius.

    He seemed thrown off by your question. Marius grew quiet for sometime.

    “I have a job to do--”

    “Move in with me.”

    “...What?”

    Marius took a deep breath and refocused his eyes on yours before he repeated, “Move in with me.” The boy took your hand. “I may not have that much, but I’ve been saving up. I have enough. I want you to move in with me.”

    “I could never ask you to do that,” you pleaded with your good friend. “And I’m getting along just fine. Marius, you don’t need to worry about me.”

    He searched your eyes for a moment. “But I want to,” he whispered. “You're not understanding what I’m saying. I want to take care of you and I want to live with you. I want to wake up every morning knowing you’re right there next to me. I want to know every second that you are alive and well. Y/n, I love you.”

    “Marius...” You felt like you needed to gasp for air. “You have no idea what this means to me. Yes, I’ll move in with you. I-I love you, too.”

    Unable to contain his overwhelming joy, Marius captured your lips with his own. The kiss was slow, but both of you felt the surrounding world disappear. Suddenly, all either of you knew were each other.

    When you separated, you took a moment just to smile before opening your eyes and clarifying, “But I am not quitting my job here. I am not some freeloader, you know.”

    All Marius could muster out of his incomprehensible happiness was returning your smile and murmuring, “Yes, I’m aware.”
