The importance of showing a feeling and not saying it.
1. “They loved each other.”
2. “He loved her. it was seen in how he protected her. He knew she loved him back by the way she could read his mind.”
3. “His love for her was passionate. It was the drive in him to always keep her out of harm's way. It was just as clear that she felt connected to him in this way too. Love was what allowed her to see into the marrow of his thoughts many days, understand what he was feeling time and time again.”
What two characters from each of these writing samples can you feel for the most as for their thoughts on their relationship? Well, clearly the last one you silly bucket head. One thing not just every writer but anyone who’s decided to write a story struggles with is the ability to show and not tell. This doesn’t only classify environments or settings but characters too.
As a semi anti-social recluse who’s been involved in some kind of roleplay and character writing since I was thirteen, I’ve learned some tricks, Though none by any means professional I’ve been applauded by some peers for...being wiser than some people when it comes to writing with my roleplay characters.
So that is why you tell us why as much as you can!
Some people don’t recommend this or classify it as fluff. My opinion is that that this is a stupid opinion. You don’t need to tell us why your character bought a soda if they were thirsty but maybe if that beverage used to be a loved one's favorite mention it. Though, saying: Juliet bought a soda. Coca-Cola was always Romeo's favorite, Is an excellent start there's always
the trick is still to show and not tell by telling the reader that the cola’s taste was the like Romeo’s mouth whenever they kissed.
Descriptive writing is always a lot more enjoyable to all parties involved whether it be an author and their audience or the players of two characters in a roleplay I'm sure there is more I can add but I’m sure and I may expand on this subject later. Thank you.
A Letter to Lovely Leah @btspleasenoticeme
I hope you don’t mind me posting here and tagged you on. Because I respect your privacy and wanted you to know that I’ve read all you wrote for me.
Being judged for your choice music is very difficult. I’ve actually went through the phase of forgetting Kpop altogether for about a whole year and a half until I found BTS.
But you know, if you push it away, and it comes back, maybe you should let it stay? Kpop to me was more than music, it was where I find friends, people with similar interests and vibrant personality, and they’re so different from the friends I have in real life.
Here, when we struggle, we struggle together. People outside of our circle don’t understand our devotion and our bond because they have never felt anything like it before.
But we will forever be crowded with people who utteredly had no respect whatsoever towards our passion because we are bound to be ‘the odd one’; we listen to foreign language, foreign sound, and went over the boundaries—we are revolutionist. We accept changes and adapt and make something good about it.
This is sadly something, many failed to understand.
But that’s okay, because I have you and you have me, Leah.
As someone who is capable of losing memories at any given time, I am honored to see your name everyday on biggest fan list. I lost most of my memories from the year 2010 to 2012 due to a clinically undiagnosed and unsupervised depression. I erased a complete two years of the worst years of my life and the people in it.
Those that remained were the one who continously made an effort to text me and connect to me.
We all have our reasons. I don’t think we can ever make people who don’t want to understand, understand what we do. As long as we have this few friends that do care about us, its more than enough actually.
And if you haven’t found them, try harder and don’t give up. I found mine in 2013, I don’t know I managed to live 20 years without them. They’re honestly the best people I’ve ever known who will jump into the car the moment I say I’m upset.
Your heart just knows it when you find these kindred souls. As for now Leah, be brave for just one more day, and promise yourself that things will get better ♥️💋💖💕💞💝🌸♥️🎁
You make me smile everytime your name pops up, and I will be disheartened if that, one day, stops. You’re very important to me 💗 I heart Leah and her strong heart.
