Hot TFA Take:
It would be better without Kylo’s Vader worship.
Let me explain. There are only two scenes where it shows up: the helmet moment, and the last fight when he claims Anakin’s lightsaber is his. As I see it, it was an attempt to both connect back to the original SW villain, and to provide a motive for Kylo’s actions. It ends up feeling superficial and forced.
Now, as a motive, it doesn’t really make sense. He would surely have been told about Anakin’s final repentance. He’d grown up with the people who’d been hurt and oppressed by Vader. Idolizing Anakin’s light would make more sense.
Or it was all Snoke, who planted these ideas as a manipulation to draw him into the darkness. (I think this is what they were going for, and I’d like to see what JJ would have done with it in later movies.) I would have cut the Vader worship thing and leaned further into the ‘feeling abandoned and unloved by his parents’ because it would give both more complexity to his relationship with Han and Leia, but also because the twisted relationship between Kylo and Snoke always felt to me like an abusive parent/master and child/student and it would have been cool to see more of that in the movie. or they could have done that in TLJ and not just killed him off without giving him the development needed to make his death relevant
GUESS WHO JUST WATCHED THE FORCE AWAKENS!!!!!
Now I can understand all the posts about it.
I really liked this movie and I’m not much of a star wars fan.
Do they give Stormtroopers rented out to kylo ren a last request before their mission begins?
The Sound of Star Wars
Sung to the tune of “Do Re Mi” from the Sound of Music… but my version weirdly follows the plot of The Force Awakens so spoilers abound.
*minor plot spoilers below the cut*
Perfect.
