Ehhhhhh look what i got today!!!!! Since the place that honored my insurance decided to CANCEL THE ORDER WITHOUT PERMISSION I started looking at goodwill. They were only $7 and work perfectly!! Nearly brand new! I cant wait to decorate them. I was prescribed them for chronic fatigue and mobility problems. #mobilitymondays #forearmcrutches #chronicfatigue #piesramblings https://www.instagram.com/p/BrPLKwngpnv/?utm_source=ig_tumblr_share&igshid=1p6bwxd0cq2aa
This past weekend I received my M+D crutches. I’m slowly getting used to them. They definitely aren’t kidding about working core and upper body muscles. I definitely have to watch out for my shoulders wanting to subluxate and not let myself sink into my elbows and scapula. Hashtag human noodle problems lol. The straps take a little getting used to and breaking in, I was a little worried because it would have meant need my ring splints to bend the straps to get in and out. I managed to get around those issues but other hypermobile Ehlers-Danlos people, your mileage may vary. I could use other crutches or canes well because my wrists no longer will bear any weight and my hand therapist wasn’t thrilled with the idea of those. I showed her the M+D site and she was concerned about my shoulders but thought it might be my best option to try. I’m only 4’ 9" and these adjust to people much smaller, I could really only find one other company that made petite size crutches but those ones were still a little too much wrist for me and my OT. So, I’m excited to get out and about, hopefully, with less hip pain and worry. #ehlersdanlossyndrome #ehlersdanlos #mobilitydesigned #mplusd #crutches #forearmcrutches #hypermobility #hypermobilitysyndromes #hypermobileeds #disability #mobilityaids
mobility aid users of basically any kind, how do you guys handle the rain?
because for me I use crutches and I don't have a free hand available for something like an umbrella.
do yall just accept that you're gonna be soaking wet?
sincerely a disabled person who's tired of being soaked by the rain
I have such a love hate relationship with my mobility aids, more specifically my crutches.
I love that I am able to function better because of them, I love that I am able to decorate them, I love the compliments I get on them, I love being able to minimize my pain, I love being able to bond with other mobility aid users because of them, etc.
But also
I hate that they're so heavy, I hate the negative comments I get on them, I hate the stares, I hate how inconvenient they are, I hate how I have to have them all the time, I hate not being able to hold anything, I hate missing out on things because my crutches make it harder, etc.
but both feelings are real and fluctuate SO OFTEN
this is a reminder that you are allowed to feel however you do about your mobility aids even if it is complicated <3
unpopular opinion: you should not be asking strangers online for recommendations for what type of mobility aids you should use.
that should be a conversation between you and your doctor/physical therapist
there are so many negative things mobility aids can do to you and please please please if you think you need a mobility aid talk to a professional. you can injure yourself by using the wrong mobility aids that don't suit your needs.
(yes I understand some people don't have the option of talking to a professional but at least please please research)
