(Words can barely express how this helped my day. Jennifer of ScriptAid really went out of her way today and brightened the spirits of this struggling soul. Doesn’t happen often, but it was shaping up to be a rough one and instantly turned around! Almost every time I get backed into a life corner and feel I have no where to turn or can think straight enough to even know who to reach out to.. one of you do something that’s quite literally the nicest thing I could imagine. I may not express it enough.. because of life’s endless roller coaster, I am floored, honored, and humbled by this support group we have going on here🌹🖤It’s almost as if we are forging a community to be able to help one another daily in a world that’s changing [for the better which means it’s gonna seem like it’s going down the tubes mostly] so rapidly most are just clinging on. I passed out quick, but felt this such an important message: “Happy late #writersclockout ,but the fights/decompress hyper chill time was needed! I mean, seriously, it's like they are describing my life to me, which is why I was trying to make a meme using their amazing footage. Then I realized the reason my reaction to these brilliant trailers is so visceral is they tell the truth about how hard it is. The last couple years have been some of the most exciting and challenging of my life. I've had the privilege of pursuing a passion project -- a feature film -- from its earliest stages, and it's been incredible, but for every victory there's been at least two or three disappointments, setbacks, or failures. In fact, I would go so far as to say that disappointment is at the heart of directing. Hardship and frustration and loss come with the territory. Loss of time. Loss of money. Even loss of friends. Unless you're making a studio film, when the dust settles, no one else bears the burden of a film's success, no one else has to answer for its acceptance by an audience, no one else has to champion it, advocate for it, no one else has to hope it was all worth it like the director does. And that can get lonely, which is why I wouldn't recommend directing to anyone who isn't a little bit crazy. It can be fun but there are a lot of times when it's not. On that note, our feature film will not be done for another year or so. And I'm not really sure what's next after that. I don't share any of this to garner your pity for my first world problems (because that's what these are), I share it because I'm willing to bet that you know someone in the same boat. Not necessarily a filmmaker. Someone who has taken an enormous risk. Someone who has made themselves vulnerable. (Looong daze and a crazy world, but during and at the end of each one.. we truly do have eachother.
