The Gods have vanished but still rule over the land of Terragonia... How will you leave your mark?
Join us in a medieval fantasy world where almost anything can happen! Interact with others and help give breath to the ever-changing lands. The Gods have found the elements and with it created everything, but what will you create?
When it comes to roleplaying, my characters are almost always weakness-driven. I don't like coming up with characters starting from their strengths. It baffles me that some people just throw together strengths and don't think about weaknesses at all. I find weaknesses and limitations so much more interesting.
Three OC examples under the cut.
Einar Odinsson. He's a 773-year-old vampire who has accumulated a lot of knowledge about cultures and he's generally very accepting of other cultures (not necessarily all practices, but he seldom judges individuals who grew up in certain cultures). He's also rather good with numbers and genuinely cares for the wellbeing of others and the planet.
...but he's also impatient, impulsive, sensitive, overdramatic, insecure, and hypocritical. He wants to stop the climate change yet drives a car because it's easy. He wants a relationship but is afraid of risking heartbreak.
Phoenix Myers. He's a 27-year-old data analyst who is very math-savvy and good at programming and understands physics, and when he relaxes, he's also visually creative.
...but how can he relax when the world is uncomfortable? He has Avoidant Personality Disorder and he dissociates a lot.
Malachai Solace. They're a 21-year-old YouTuber who has an abundance of ideas and who isn't afraid of trying new things, and they also have a great self-esteem.
...but they're not knowledgeable about the world (they grew up in a cult, how could they be?).
"Text-based roleplaying is a nice, relaxing hobby! No pressure!"
...cool theory, however, in the real world...
...to make my newest character, Atlas, I:
researched Eastern Orthodoxy (Atlas grew up Eastern Orthodox but is questioning Divine Providence in a very un-Orthodox way)
researched Eastern Orthodox baby naming rituals, came up with a naming ritual for a witch family, and then combined the two
emailed an Eastern Orthodox priest to ask about saints that might work for a trans man and be known in Finland (he named Saint Blessed Xenia of St. Petersburg) (because Atlas carries a small religious icon with him at all times)
spent countless hours researching Karelian language (to name one sculpture that Atlas made five years ago)
researched where those evacuated from Ruskeala (in Ladoga Karelia) after Moscow Armistice (in 1944) were sent in Finland and how the process of being evacuated worked (to write one paragraph about the grandparents of Atlas)
went to my town's orthodox parish's käspaikka/rushnyk exhibition (because Atlas uses double running stitch in his jewelry art, and his aesthetic is a modernized version of käspaikka/rushnyk)
borrowed four books from the library: three about käspaikka/rushnyk, one about double running stitch (again, Atlas uses double running stitch in his jewelry art)
spent countless hours researching flax (Atlas has a tiny flax field on his yard, and he weaves it into a fabric himself)
spent countless hours researching the elättikäärme tradition of Finland (a wild snake that agrees to live in a house to bring luck, because Atlas has an elättikäärme)
I also made up new stuff about how elättikäärme might live and behave
researched the taste of raw human heart (because Atlas gained a skill after eating his uncle's heart)
wrote a business plan for his jewelry business (because of course)
researched pesäpallo (Finnish baseball) results of 2018 to be able to refer correctly to a game
And please don't ever allow me to talk about all the research I've done for Einar. He was born in the 13th century in Northern Norway, married a Saami woman, became a vampire, left his wife and son, moved all around Europe... and now we're in 2023. That's a shit-ton of research.
I can't allow myself to make mistakes in things that can be made factually correct with a bit of research.
Especially if the mistakes could end up reinforcing harmful stereotypes.
I got a lot done on the site today, including finalizing the Character Creation, Attributes and Species Pages, and therefore opening the RPG for player applications! The first 6 applications I approve will get to play the Beta Game: The First World Martial Arts Tournament!

Come on over and try it out on this new roleplay forum! It is still in the works but it is up and running to start roleplaying. It is created by the coolio snatchersunite! There is currently 3 roleplaying boards up and running: Crossover, Non-Fandom Related and Harry Potter, BUT there are more to come :)
If you don't know what Forum Roleplaying is, then I am here to inform you! Forum Roleplaying is basic where you make characters and make a story with other people. There can be 1x1 or group roleplays, depending on what you like. If you love to write, collaborate and socialize all at the same time, then this is definitely for you!
It was joining a fantastic roleplay that involved characters, authors, etc. It's still going and we're planning to turn into a book or series eventually(we're working on it now).
Hey. Sup Supernatural fans? So uh. My friend, flotsamwinchester and I really want to get a nice little group RP together for SPN. We plan on using a forum (proboards, I think) and we're looking for people who want to join us. Unfortunately, Dean Winchester and Castiel have already been claimed, but we still have other cast members and we'd love some OCs to join us. Are you interested? Drop me an ask. I promise we are really fun people.
Edit: Sam Winchester is taken and Crowley might possibly be as well.
