i like hacksaw ridge because it's a movie with real men in it, real characters not caricatures. they all have different opinions but no one is portrayed as evil or stupid to have those beliefs. the father, the commanders, the fellow privates and most importantly desmond doss.
and it's not through mindless debate that doss proves his point, it's through his actions. and when he does so, the other men can accept it and respect him for who he is.
the way the commanders initially ridicule doss, and when he doesnt change his mind, they grow concerned. because in their eyes a soldier without a weapon is a dead soldier. because while initially they see doss' obstinate morals as him trying to make himself superior, they tell him to stop out of real concern for the rest of the unit and then out of concern for doss himself. but when the assault starts they got his back. out of concern. they think he's stupid to go out there completely unarmed but they still cover him.
and the way the movie treats the father is perfect. he has to be the most complicated character in there. the way the mother treats him, how she tell her sons of the man whom she had loved and how the son is able to both stop his father yet understand that he was not evil incarnate. how the dad while completely disagreeing with his son comes in to help him out, how he breaks down after his son points a gun at him and how he sobs after beating his wife. the way the trauma of the war completely warped him, yet you can see some traces of the man he was. just perfect.
hello friends!!
sorry for the lack of posting in the past few days-- ive been busy! a bit of a personal infodump below :33
my school just let out, and usually when it turns summer break i get really depressed. to keep that from happening ive been trying to develop my own routine! i am autistic, and having a strong routine is very helpful to me. however, to keep from falling into doomscrolling, i try not to be on my phone too much, which has been keeping me from posting!!
im gonna get to those MB requests ASAP!! thanks yall for being so patient with me, and for all the love on my moodboards! yallre the best >w<
decided to create a rectangular joint. could a depressed person be so innovative??
Wow this blog has over 100 followers! I think nows a good a time as any to show off my battle jacket. A lot of the patches are hand embroidered while others I got direct from the artists!
Every couple of weeks a post goes around arguing that "leather is good actually, and critics of leather are actually so much crueler to animals because microplastics (and also plant based fake leather sucks btw)."
Listen folks, you're spreading propoganda for one of the most polluting, cruelest (for the animals and the workers) industries out there, all for free!
Yeah plastic clothing is shitty and fake leather mostly sucks, but so does real leather. The secret third option here is to not buy any leather products at all. Real or fake.
Look for durable canvas boots instead of ones made of skin. Try tying yourself up in a rope harness rather than a leather one. Go for the cloth interior when you get that new car. And if you just have to have leather for whatever strange reasons you have, for the love of all animal life, please thrift it.
Just because something is a byproduct of another horrible industry doesn't lessen the impact its manufacture has on animals, workers, and the environment. The less animal products we buy, the harder it is for animal agriculture to be profitable, and that's the first step towards the abolition of specisism and animal exploitation entirely.
Wow, the TME spouse of Laura Jane Grace exploited, isolated, and traumatized her while simultaneously trying to paint Laura Jane as a violent abuser who is a danger to herself and others. I wish I could say I'm surprised, but the nature of transmisogony makes this all too common in TME/TMA relationships. If Laura Jane didn't have the support network that she'd built up over the years, I don't know if she could have gotten out safely.
Those of you who know me know that Against Me! and Laura Jane were pivotal in helping me figure out my identity as a trans punk anarchist, and I'm pissed off and honestly a little scared—but not suprised—that this could happen to such a public figure in such a trans-forward scene.
My heart breaks for Laura Jane, and I wanna plead with my TME followers that even if you're trans yourself you NEED to constantly work to unlearn the inherent transmisogony we were all raised with, ESPECIALLY if you are in a relationship with a TMA person.
Needing to work on unlearning transmisogony doesn't mean you're a monster; it's like how every non-Black person needs to make a consistent effort to unlearn their ingrained anti-Blackness. It's just essential if you don't wanna be a bigoted person.
Honestly, I'm not here to give advice as much as I'm trying to productivity redirect my anger. God, yall need to do better, or trans women who don't have the same support networks will continue to die.
FKA Church is a poc and queer run DIY space and venue, and the last of its kind in Los Angeles. Rent is fucking expensive in this town and they're struggling. If you value punk, DIY, and qtpoc spaces please consider throwing a few bucks their way, even if you're not in LA!!
