Vi’s Mental illness and how it impacts her
Violet also has BPD in this universe, with the symptoms she shares with Jinx, though hers is not as advanced: explanation.
Vi has major black and white thinking, struggling to accept changes in people and seeing someone for something new. “You killed her” an example where Vi essentially cannot see Jinx as her sister at all.
Self sabotage. She constantly puts herself into self sabotage. Physically, yes, but especially mentally. Blaming herself for absolutely everything and believing it.
Fearing abandonment. Vi had lost everyone. She shows multiple times severe distrust, and even going out of her way to not grow close to people to avoid this, ex: “oil and water. It’ll never work”. This can further be proven by her spiral after she and Caitlyn split.
Emotional highs and lows. Vi struggles immensely with ups and downs, especially with anger.
Many may ask why Vi seems more stable than Jinx if this is the case, and this has everything to do with upbringing. Violet had stability into her teenage years, the most critical portion of her life spent with Vander, who helped her power through said mental health illnesses. And in her late teens, early 20s, she spent time in prison, which caused a dissociation and isolation, giving her impulsive violence and anger as her only coping tool.
Jinx, however, was allowed to be impulsive at the most crucial portion of her development. Silco never punished her or swayed her into another direction, nor did he give her any ways to cope with her mental struggles, leading to her spiral.
Vi also seems to suffer with PTSD, and very likely depression.
We will explain this link through the girls’ biological father, Connol. Since BPD is a trauma response AND genetic (I believe up to 40% of cases are genetic) we use this blank character to finally give him a story, which you all will see later on. So yeah, the girls get this disorder from Connol.
Now, remember. This is literally a story, and an analysis based on observation and personal experience so let’s be kind please and thank you.
