gdt's frankenstein is a love letter on how to adapt a book to film with changes. It is possible to make changes to characters and plot while still being TRUE to the book. And by watching this film, I've determined it comes down to 2 things: key plot points, key theme points. In many ways you can change as much as you want but the story must: be recognisable as the story, resonate with the same or related ideas and themes on a deeper emotional and or spiritual level. (Basically, it passed the vibe check)

Okay, I’ll say it – Horror isn’t about slasher bullshit. It’s about human nature, systemic injustices, madness, desperation, isolation, human connection, empathy and people need to stop making horror without these elements. There is no point to a story about a serial killer killing people [*cough* women] if there is no themes to back the story.

After a mighty storm, he sees a mysterious, misshapen creature approaching from the sea, with whom he makes an infernal bargain to exchange bodies, with momentous consequences."
