SCAM ALERT

Guys, please be careful if you get any messages from someone who claims to have reported you to Tumblr for a phishing scam. I'm afraid some accounts have already been stolen and compromised, so they will appear legitimate.

I got the following message from snowrosearts. I recognized the user so I was convinced at first, but a cursory Google search revealed a similar scam.

Artist Scam

There's an artist scam going around on all fanfiction websites (including attempts on the CFAA), whereby someone comments on a fic saying they were so inspired, they'd like to do paid work for you.  Sometimes these are lazy plug-and-play comments that have no story details, sometimes they're more elaborate, but they are always a scam.  Always.  I'm going to be watching (this is why the invite queue has such a long delay), but if you get one of these comments via guest commenting or anything else, let me know on Discord or Tumblr ASAP.

1.) No real artists begs for commissions on peoples' fanfiction.

2.) Commercialization of the CFAA (and AO3! and every other archive running OTW-A!) is against the terms of service and will be dealt with swiftly and harshly.

3.) They'll steal your money.  If they give you anything back, it'll be some lazy, AI-generated bullshit.  Don't fall for it.  A real artist fan of your work who was that inspired would almost always either draw for it and gift it to you, or would ask if they could draw for it and gift it to you.  I've done that myself.  What they will never do is come and ask you for money.

Be safe out there, this is going on everywhere.

I really believe is a fraud. I opened the link in a isolated browser where I didn't put my account or my other personal things andd it asked me about my payment and bank card codes. The problem is that I'm 17 years old and I don't buy or sell things online.

And many other accounts are mentioned. How do I report this if it's fake? I'm new in this platform and I don't really know what to do in situation like this.

Asking for your bank details sounds "We'll steal all your personal datas and money."

Not to add the fact you can't comment or reblog the post that then disappear if you check the account.

And it's not an official Tumblr account: there's no verification.

And to avoid suspects, this account follows the official one.

Let me guess:

The image you want to make the "mural" out of is my most recent selfie. You'll even pay for my time, as the work you're doing is for a client with a larger project! You'll send me an e-cheque which will cover both your time and mine, and all I have to do is bank it digitally and then send you the amount you're owed.

The reason YOU can't bank the cheque and then send ME my share would be some vague, nebulous, and utterly fake reason, because this is fraud. This is a scam.

The posts on your blog are stolen from an artist I already follow; you do not create any of the art you say you do.

To my followers, let me say again:

This is a scam.

The e-cheque you'll be asked to bank will not go through, however it will initially look like it does, so you'll be convinced to send the money 'owed' directly from your bank account to theirs. Once the bank systems catch up and realise the cheque is worthless, the balance will auto-adjust to the correct balance, but the money you've sent will have already gone out, and you will have little to no legal recourse to get it back.

This will more than likely leave you deep in your overdraft.

Don't fall for this. Report, block, move on.

And on a completely separate level to financial fraud: fuck these guys for using a person's own self-esteem to scam them.

Typhon's whole status as the legendary "vault king" in the modern era is based on a lie (kinda). While he did open two vaults (promethea and nekrotafeyo) all the other ones he lied about finding, also falsely credited with a lot of information on the eridians that was actually discovered by Leda, as she was unknown outside of academic circles regarding the eridians/vaults and her clan on the planet Athens, in comparison to typhon's pre-existing reputation as a famous mercenary/vault hunter who looks for eridian relics. He never made any attempts to correct any of this before heading to nekrotafeyo because leda cared more about completing her research and he liked the boost to his ego. Outside of his own personal whims, typhon did not give a fuck about anything else in the six galaxies, and the dead wife + kids left you combo turned him into a miserable death seeking bum who is very quick to attempt to help tyreen and the crimson raiders stop troy to make up for being a dog water parent (for tyreen. he would put troy down like old yeller in a heartbeat for his starlight even though troy likes him more). General opinion among the crimson raiders is in-between massive disappointment in regards to the mythical vault hunter and "i need to rip this nigga apart so bad it makes me look stupid" (gaige is feeling this one the most), also the realization that tyreen's multiple tangent-rants about typhon being a phony-ass-fraud with stolen valor being real AND true. He ends up sacrificing himself to protect tyreen from troy but she's fucked up over it because she wanted to kill him herself :( she made a whole promise to the stars and every thing
