If you see this on your dash, you have been blessed by baby face Robespierre. Today will be your lucky day.
From « Association pour la sauvegarde de la maison de Saint Just »:
Dear members and friends,
Since its inception, our association has been dedicated to studying, promoting, and preserving the work of Saint-Just.
This is why we are now appealing to you for your support to finance the restoration of one of his most important manuscripts, the draft of Republican Institutions. Volume NAF 24136 of the National Library of France, which contains this manuscript as well as the preparatory notes for the Speech of 9 Thermidor, has indeed deteriorated severely since entering the public collections in 1941, as we explain in the attached appeal. It requires urgent restoration costing €7,650, which our association hopes to raise through this fundraising campaign.
Because we know of your attachment to the work and personality of Saint-Just, we hope we can count on your generosity. Every contribution, however small, will be invaluable, and we thank you most sincerely in advance. Your contribution will entitle you to a receipt allowing for a tax deduction of 66% of the amount donated. We would also be grateful if you would spread the word about this fundraising campaign. If our appeal is successful, the funds raised, in addition to those needed for the restoration of the manuscript, will finance its scientific study using the new technologies now available for research on ancient manuscripts.
Please accept, dear members, dear friends, our warmest greetings, with our gratitude for your help,
—By The Board, Anne Quennedey, President.
APPEAL FROM THE ASSOCIATION FOR THE PRESERVATION OF THE HOUSE OF SAINT-JUST LET US SAVE THE MANUSCRIPT OF THE REPUBLICAN INSTITUTIONS
Volume NAF 24136 of the National Library of France contains the manuscript of Saint-Just's draft Republican Institutions, conceived in consultation with Robespierre, as well as the preparatory notes for his Speech of 9 Thermidor. Having suffered from deterioration that has worsened in recent years, it requires urgent restoration, for which the Association for the Preservation of the House of Saint-Just is launching a fundraising campaign.
The historical and heritage value of volume NAF 24136 cannot be overestimated: written between April and July 1794, the Republican Institutions constituted the "grand project" which, for Saint-Just and Robespierre, was to give a new direction to the Revolution. In this unfinished manuscript, Saint-Just sets forth his ideas for deepening democracy and refounding society for the benefit of the most vulnerable.
His notes for the Speech of 9 Thermidor, for their part, bear witness to Saint-Just's reflections on the crisis within the Committees and on the course of action to adopt in these circumstances. These manuscripts are all the more interesting because their numerous erasures reveal the development of his thought. The deterioration suffered by these manuscripts results from the combination of two factors.
Firstly, the high acidity of the conservation binding, produced during the Second World War at a time when good quality paper was unavailable, attacked the pages on which Saint-Just wrote. Secondly, the iron-gall ink used by Saint-Just caused deterioration of the paper and, in places, holes and tears that have already resulted in the loss of several sections of his text.
Through this appeal, the Association for the Preservation of the House of Saint-Just seeks to fund the restoration that will bring this process to a close. As the services of the National Library of France are unable to undertake this restoration quickly, the manuscript will be entrusted to the Coralie Barbe workshop, with which the institution regularly collaborates.
The workshop will dismantle the current binding, remove the folios from their acidic supports, consolidate them, and remount them on neutral paper, finally creating a more robust binding. We thank all those whose generosity will allow this important revolutionary manuscript to be saved and preserved under optimal conditions. If the sum of €7,650 needed for the restoration is exceeded, the additional amount will be devoted to the scientific study of the manuscript (analysis of the inks and papers, deciphering the text beneath the erasures) and to its diplomatic and facsimile edition.

Behind the scene, La Révolution française journal du film (1989)
Realised by Jérôme Enrico, son of Robert Enrico who was the director and scenarist for the movie La Révolution française, les années lumières in 1989.
Have you watched Danton (1983)?
Have you ever thought, "I wish I had a recipe for something vaguely like That Fucking Crocodile?"
Well... I have good news! Meet the Appetizer Alligator!

I should post this every year on this date...
Thank you @revolutionarywig for this video!
Why "Danton" (1983) is better than you think, despite it's historical innacuracies.
Scrolling through tumblr I've noticed hostility towards this movie. I don't remeber specific posts, but nevertheless I decided to write this post to try to redeem it in your eyes.
Okay so, before you crucify me, let me explain where I stand. Do I think that we should point out that this movie is not historically accurate? Absolutely, it's an important thing. But also in this case i think we should also look behind them and it is so important to regard it through the context in which it was made, cause it gives extra layers to the story, and explains why it is like that. So, as usuall for me, it's all about ✨️The context✨️. Historiography as whole is a mirror of times when it was created, and despite best efforts of reaserchers we cannot escape that. With history inspired art that sentiment is even stronger. And this movie doesnt even try to be accuare, and objective documentary about events of the Revolution. As I will try to explain in this post, it's not even really about the French Revolution. And that last sentence is important for the rest of my reasoning.
This move is polish-french coproduction. As XX century history is not really my cup of tea, I will focus here on polish side (as I know more about my county's history and i feel like its very important here)
Wajda's "Danton" is framed on the play "The Danton Case" by Stanisława Przybyszewska. Not some history book, not entire original scenario. That's adaptation of the play from 1929. In case of the message it goes far away from its source anyway, which is dictated by political situation at the time. Wajda himself in 70's directed also the play which was more true to original script. So what caused the shift in the tone of the film? Here we need a little lesson in polish history. I'll do it quick as well I'm not an expert on that topic.
After the WWII Poland found itself in eastern bloc, under soviet influence. County became known in this period as "Polish People's Republic" [pl. Polska Republika Ludowa] (I hope i get translations right but as a polish person I'm not sure about english names, so sorry for that). This was one party, authoritatian system. Late 70's and early 80's were time with big oposition activity, with temporaly formed work union "Solidarity" [Solidarność]. It became a mass mouvement, and well it's not hard to guess that communist gouvernement wasn't happy about it.
That's the atmosphere in which this move was born. First some scenes were shoot (is this right word? I hope so) and then another thing happened. This thing was the Martial law, introduced 13.12.1981 (and as far as I'm concerned they didnt even done that legally but please refer on that to people smarter than me).
Watching "Danton" you can see a lot of references to that, tho indirect, and heavily restricted (mostly by french side, as we all know that whole frev itself is sensitive topic), but they're there. And If I can see that (being ignorant fool about XX century, imagine people at the time). Also of course, palalels aren't 1:1, some interpretations there go to far. But even not considering directors intentons, you can't control the later interpretations of your work, and it could be read as conflict between Wałęsa (Danton) and Jaruzelski (Robespierre). Again not 1:1, not too much, but you can get the impression, despite makers intentions. And the fact that they had to reapet that they hadn't had that in mind (either true or not, but ignoring the accusation of corrupcy on Danton was a concious move) shows the impact it left on viewers.
This movie is also about revolutions in general. Conflict of interests, and political games and freedom of speach and role of lies and manipulation.
The most jarring historical innacuracies are alusions to current political reality, not some evil thermidorian propaganda maxing.
I will not talk here about french reception and political situatons, as I dont think my knowledge is deep enough. I know perception there was different, as well as points of critique. Anyway thats what I wanted to say as i believe this movie deserves watching it having that context in mind. After all it's also well made and real pleasure to watch. And I think it deserves appreciation, not as historically accurate movie about french revolution, but as contemporary critique.
