The last month of my life has been an emotional roller coaster as I have struggled to keep alive my first fish, Cole. Cole was a birthday gift to me from my best friend but he quickly became my therapy. Because my mom refused to take care of him, I was all he had. I was the only one would feed him, clean his tank, check up on his health, buy him friends and plants, and even buy a bigger tank so he could have more room. I was his only chance of survival so I knew I had to keep myself alive in order to keep him alive.
Now that he’s gone, though, I have his friends to care for. Sure he was my favorite, but that doesn’t make my other babies less important.
Connor Drabble
“Mama, why’s Concon crying?” Connor blinked a few times, the room around her coming into focus once more. She hadn’t realized she was crying again until Cole pointed it out. She quickly wiped her tear stained cheeks and tried to smile at the two staring Vorster’s. She’d come over here to hang out while Mike had MJ, she didn’t come over here to sob like usual. But she’d been staring at Dakota’s very pregnant belly and remembering when that was her and everything wasn’t complete shit. And the tears just came out themselves.
“She misses MJ, buddy.” Dakota replied, smoothing Cole’s hair away from his face. Cole looked to Connor with a concerned expression. She had no doubt in her mind that Cole was the sweetest five year old on the entire planet. And he loved her so much that it was enough to temporarily fill the void in Connor’s heart almost completely.
“Well where is she?” Cole questioned, his little head trying to figure out how to solve this problem.
“She’s with her daddy, she’s having a day with her daddy like you have sometimes.” Cole’s eyes went wide and he put his little hands on Dakota’s face.
“You cry when I have a day with daddy?”
“No, baby, I just miss you a lot.” Dakota gave him a beautiful and bright smile to make sure her son knew it was okay. Connor watched them silently.
“Let’s call MJ,” Cole retrieved Dakota’s cell phone and handed it over. Dakota looked at Connor as Connor perked up a bit.
“He doesn’t want to talk to me but... could you please?” She begged. “I’ll stay out of frame.” She just wanted to see her baby but didn’t want to upset Mike by calling him. Dakota just shrugged and nodded and pulled Cole into her lap so they could call.
“Hey,” Dakota greeted. “Cole wanted to call his future wife but Della was busy so we called you instead!” She gave a twinkling smile and Mike laughed. Connor’s heart nearly burst out of her chest at the sound.
“He’d be so lucky,” Mike replied as he flipped around the camera. “We’re just having tummy time.” And there was baby MJ, flailing about on a blanket like babies do. Connor put her hand over her mouth to try and stop her crying. Mike appeared on screen again, his head next to MJ’s body. “What’s up?”
“Concon is sad, she’s crying.” Cole stated with annoyance. He wasn’t Mike’s biggest fan currently.
“Connor just left,” Dakota added quickly. Cole looked behind him to make sure that wasn’t true and his brows furrowed.
“I know she’s sad, buddy.” Mike sighed heavily.
“Whys she sad if you just... brung her MJ?” Cole raised his hands as if to say it was obvious. Connor put her face into a pillow.
“It’s okay,” Dakota said before Mike could reply. “I already told him you and MJ are having a day together.” Connor wondered if the skill to defuse a situation came with motherhood and if she’d ever get there. “We just wanted to say hi, that’s all!”
“Say hi, MJ.” Mike picked up her tiny hand and waved it. Connor smiled slightly. “See you guys later?” When he’d bring MJ to the Vorster’s for Connor to pick up. Dakota agreed and they said goodbye.
“Thanks.” Connor was crying again. Cole scooted over on the couch and wrapped himself around her tightly. Connor hugged him close. “I love you, Coley.”
“I love you so so so so so so so so soooooooo much!” Cole sang out, lifting away from her so he could howl out the last so. Dakota watched on with absolute adoration in her eyes.
“Wow that’s a lot!” Connor said, amazed, already feeling a little better. Cole nodded his head. “You wanna watch a movie while mom takes a nap?”
“Oh my god my hero,” Dakota jumped up and waddled her eight month pregnant body away before Cole could even reply. “Love you both!” She called as she closed her bedroom door.
Connor let Cole pick the movie and then the two of them snuggled into the pillows and blankets together. And for an hour and a half Connor was able to momentarily forget her sadness as they watched the movie and Cole commented on all his favorite parts or sang the songs softly to himself. His head never left her chest.
Connor kissed the top of his head and knew in her heart that everything would be okay. With the support she had, everything would be okay.
My golden boy
I got a new heater and Cole is not sure about it so he is flaring out all of his fins to look as big as possible. Not sure what’s going on here
Cole and Joseph got a new tank! Now they look extra tiny
Goodbye (Cole)
“Hey there, Curry. It’s Lei.” She laughed, holding the phone a bit away. “We haven’t talked much; I know. It’s just, well, you were one of the people here that I did get to know a bit. I thought it would only be right to say something to you, so that you know it’s not your fault.
I did this out of pain. My personal life was fucking shit, and I was over it. I hope you aren’t, though. You should take me as a warning sign that if you talk enough sense you will lose your mind. I hope you find someone you love and hold on tight to them. I hope you’ll set the world ablaze. I’ll see you on the flip side.”
Cole looked up, and saw a sprig of mistletoe hanging over them. "Huh, so I guess you're the lucky girl tonight." He smirked, leaned in, and kissed Sage.
She rolled her eyes, but a small smile was on her face. “You’re kind of hot. Well, warm hot. Not good looking hot.”
