I finally came up with a good visual to explain what it’s like to not be religious but live in the south.
Replace all Christian things with Minions. Crosses? Minions. Jesus statues? Minion toys. Churches? Minion toy store. Imagine living your life not really caring for Minions but literally everyone around you is obsessed with Minions. Some people are cool and don’t mention the Minions around you but others say they’re cool about it while still telling you you need to love Minions like they do. They even throw shade at you for not loving Minions.
Schools and workplaces galore find ways to fit Minions in them. Bus drivers play Minion music as they drive. Your grandmother quotes them as you ride with her to the grocery store.
And when before you could ignore it, now you can’t. They just won’t leave you alone. You’re slowly going crazy because everywhere you look is more Minions and when you ask for all the Minion lovers to tone it down a little they freak out like you’ve asked to ban Minions entirely.
