it really pisses me off the constant reminder that even leftists will continue supporting oppression when their enjoyment is on the line

and its worse from leftists

because you have a group of people who are always claiming to be against oppression and bringing down the system

but then you say their food might not be ethical? or their chocolate might not be ethical? or their viewership might not be ethical?

then suddenly people who always advocate for boycotting, and voting for your wallet, and all that, will turn around and say "no ethical consumption under capitalism" as a justification to continue supporting oppression, without even trying.

And they will say they tried- bullshit

I have tried. And I slip up. And I keep trying. I remind myself. It's a long process. I don't just try once and give up, or even a few times. I do research, I talk with people. I really sit with myself and ask "how can I approach this. Is it possible, practical, and necessary?" and constantly checking back with myself

I listen to music of shitty musicians, but I will not give them money

I dont eat or use animals, but if I were to buy a gift for someone who does I would buy from indigenous people who need the support.

I still eat non-fair trade chocolate, but im aware of it and always am reminding myself and working on it. I have to remind myself it's not a necessity. it's not a life line. I have privilege, I am able to buy slave free chocolate, and so I should.

I like a show from an artist who's crap. but I don't support them nor the show, I simply like it
