The way that Rebirth of Souls kinda keeps this look on Byakuya when they're, apparently, already getting ready to go help Ichigo, it kinda implies that Byakuya had his new Haori and his new hair ornaments made specifically to appear like that in front of Ichigo...

Considering how relevant this becomes in the Fullbringer Arc….

Why the hell did that cut this in the anime?

As someone who hasn't considered the ship of ichigo and byakuya in more than a "oh that'd be an interesting ship", getting to the whole fullbringer arc really made me interested.

Like Tsukishima is able to place himself in memories and shit, which he does with the important people Ichigo has in his life. And all these people, Ichigo's family, his close friends, and the girl who loves him, instantly turn on him when Ichigo attacks Tsukishima.

The people who care the most about Ichigo and trust him with their lives are unable to break out of the ability or even question it. Orihime and Chad do try and fight it near the end but even they don't manage it before being removed from the situation entirely.

Tsukishima does this too with Byakuya and yet, out of all Ichigo's friends and family, it's Byakuya who actually goes against the enemies ability and cuts him down because anyone who dares to hurt Ichigo, even if they're a friend, must be cut down. And he does this almost instantaneously, without mulling it over unlike Chad and Orihime who only started to question things later.

That's just. . . Very interesting that out of everyone, it was Byakuya who would do such a thing, especially since, up to this point, we've not seen a lot between him and Ichigo.

Anyway I can see why my friend was a bit obsessed with these two when she was reading the manga. I can certainly see the potential even more now than I did and I certainly did earlier.

see the murder of ginjou was probably the most powerful death scene in bleach because it was one of the few times, i would say, ichigo actually swung his sword NOT to protect, but to actually do harm. and he did it not as a protector but as a soldier, which is why it’s so poignant that ginjou HAD to be murdered in cold blood because this was, essentially, ichigo’s first foray as a fully-realized soldier vs someone borrowing power in order to use it for protection of others. you could argue that yeah, he was the reason why ichigo got gaslit into multiple mental breakdowns, but even then, ginjou had a reason for his madness that transcended their current predicament, and ichigo STILL chose to cater to the administration rather than embody ginjou’s self-righteousness.

but i don’t think it was ‘wrong’ for ichigo to choose to kill ginjou either because i think that moment was the first time ichigo realized that it was either his life or someone else’s, and that soul society COULD hurt him and impede him from protecting his family and friends if he didn’t comply, so he HAD to kill ginjou in order to maintain that tenuous agreement between state and soldier that said soldier wouldn’t desert because of some renegade. and he didn’t. he killed ginjou, ended the fullbringer insurgency, and ‘restored’ that political and spiritual balance touted by soul society, but this time, he did it with full knowledge that he, too, is nothing but a tool.

in addition, i also wanna highlight that rukia’s “ichigo moved the immovable soul society” line was such an EFFECTIVE way of hitting home the propagandistic nature of their relationship to ichigo, and this is NOT to knock on rukia cuz my hoe is a gray amoral character herself, but i DO think it’s poignant to note that kubo has purposefully used rukia to spew much of the propaganda that groomed ichigo into a child soldier, BUT she did a lot of it unknowingly because she too, ding ding ding, is a victim of the system.

tl;dr: can’t WAIT for aizen to eventually bust up outta that prison one of these days and destroy the fabric of reality and awaken the primordials

Mysterylover Watches Bleach Episodes 353 "Pigtails, Meet Hime"

1. Right off the bat we have Ichigo back in dark robes and with a sword! Yeah that feels like Bleach.

2. We get our basic Shonen fight where the hero gives it his all and the villain just catches his sword.

3. Just when the villain is getting into a good monologue his sidekick shows up to give Ichigo a harder time.

4. And now our main character has been turned into a black square. Um ok. This arc is so weird.

5. OK I see Ichigo is now trapped in a video game. That's pretty much what this whole arc feels like. Bleach does Wreck-it-ralph.

6. And apparently the villains are now playing Ichigo's weird Video Game. These two vs Chad apparently for Ichigo's Soul

7. The villain Duo and Chad trade blows for a little while. It's your basic back and forth and honestly not too exciting. I'm really missing Hime and Rukia right about now.

8. Oh, and apparently Ichigo's game is done cooking or whatever. Some gauge on the game box fills up. It's all very bizarre.

9. Pigtails is back! Thank goodness I needed my usual dose of Bleach Ladies Running around and kicking ass. She's saving Ichi's but, I think at least.

10. What's happening with Sado?! Damn Ichi's friends dropping left and right now.

11. OH SPEAKING OF! We finally check back in with Uryu and Orihime. Thank God I was worried the plot had abandoned them.

12. They go through some exposition and seem to have figured out what's going on. You two need to get on that now so Ichigo can get out of the video game or whatever it is.

13. Thankfully the weird cast has gotten Ichigo out of the game already. OK well that felt pointless.

14. After a lot of exposition that I really don't followe we cut back to Hime. She and Uryu have hashed out what's going on and Chad finally brings her in on the plot. Thank God now we've got the time reversing goddess on our side the plot should hopefully pick up the pace a bit.

15. And back to Ichigo and the fullbringers playing video games. Man they're just like all teenage boys.

16. OOH but now Pigtails is meeting Hime! Please be best gal pals I'm missing all the lady friends from the last arc.

17. Hime owns the whole ep of course as she sassily states she's over her issues with healing and ready to have Ichi's back. FYEAH that's our girl.

18. We end with Hime joining the video game and a little bit with Urahara. Wow that was a lot in one episode ya'll.

Ikkaku, Kenpachi, Toshiro, Byakuya and Renji's entrance was silly dramatic and yet still pretty cool. Man I missed those guys!
