Fumaria muralis (wall fumitory)

Today I ran into this pink, wall fumitory growing out of (what else?) a crack in a wall. Not just any wall, but a freshly-painted, chocolate brown wall. I immediately think, " Wow, what a great pink/brown -foreground/background photo opportunity!" I'm sure all you other #photographers on tumblr have experienced moments similar to this.

Originally native to western Europe and northwestern Africa, fumitories became yet another international invasive-plant success story during the Age of Exploration. Fumitories are now found growing as a roadside 'weed' throughout temperate regions of the world including; North America, South America, Asia, Australia, New Zealand... You get the picture.

13/04/2025-An intimate view of a Collared Dove at home and seas of hedge bedstraw leaves and red deadnettle, angelic Little Egret and Avocets which were a joy to see, vibrant emerald and blue scenes of Normandy lagoon in the sun and minute and mysterious Danish scurvygrass at Lymington.

On another excellent day of spring birdwatching I was also captivated by my first Little, Common and Sandwich Terns and Bar-tailed Godwit of the year the latter coming into exquisite summer plumage, the delicate mustard billed Little Terns seen hovering and splashing into the water to fish were delightful scenes. Other highlights today included Egyptian Geese, Brent Geese still around, Shelduck, spotted medick and common ramping-fumitory. A wonderful wild weekend.

Originating in the Alps, the perennial Pseudofumaria lutea (yellow fumitory, rock fumewort, fumitory, fumewort, yellow corydalis, Corydalis lutea) has become naturalised in the U.K. This plant thrives in the crevices between rocks with a moist but free-draining soil in full sun or semi-shade. Here it has seeded in church steps and walls.

I’m late here, I had this one for some days done but I couldn’t take the photo. Fumitories are very pretty, but I couldn’t find much information about their Flower Language, I know they mean shyness and, well, Teres isn’t shy at all, but I really wanted to draw him because I loved all the FFI captains, they were such an interesting characters to me.

The following herbs and spices can alleviate skin rash:

 Cilantro (Coriandrum sativum):

The greens used as spice soothes skin irritation. You can cook a carrot cream soup with grated cheddar cheese, cilantro greens and chili.

Cilantro seeds are also good for skin rash. Make a tea from a cup of water and a teaspoon of cilantro seeds.

 Elderberry (Sambucus nigra):

Elderberry flower tea: The tea is made from dried flowers. Pour a cup (2,5 dl) of boiling water over a teaspoon of herb, and allow it to steep for 10 minutes. Strain the tea. You can use stevia to sweeten your tea. Drink this tea three times a day.

 Verbena-Wild pansy-Common fumitory-Licorice tea for skin rash:

Take:

– 40 g/ 1,4 oz verbena (Verbena officinalis) herb

– 20 g/ 0,7 oz wild pansy (Viola tricolor) flower

– 20 g/ 0,7 oz common fumitory (Fumaria officinalis) herb

– 10 g/ 0,35 oz licorice (Glycyrrhiza glabra) root

Mix the herbs. Take a teaspoon of it and pour a cup (2,5 dl) of boiling water over it. Allow it to steep for 10 minutes. Strain the tea. You can use stevia to sweeten your tea. Drink this tea twice a day.

Pretty little weed by CAJC: in the PNW Common fumitory (Fumaria muralis) has an interesting little flower, pretty complex. Although it's a European migrant, it seems quite happy in moist shady spots in Washington state. https://flic.kr/p/2iRsVXe
