THURSDAY NIGHT TASTING 6-8 PM
Is it summer yet? Certainly lots of teases with a 70 degree days and endless rosé offers in Dandelion's inbox! Pretty soon our fridge is going to be a rainbow of pink and our AC unit will be humming away as we all start complaining about the heat, but at least have our Thursday night wine tastings to keep you perfectly cozy until then...
Join us and Kevin from Vignaioli Selections tonight from 6-8pm to taste a few of our favorite things. Plus cheese from Eastern District and bread from She-Wolf Bakery.
KOHL 2016 GRÜNER VELTLINER
Gruner Veltliner might be one of summer's favorite wines. Crisp, stony and dry; über refreshing. And if the weather keeps up the way it has been, then it's prime time to drink some Weißwein!!! To be honest, this wine is leaving us soon, we'll probably sell outtonight, but only to make room for more Grüner. Come try Kohl while you can... and if you're lucky, take one of the last bottles home! If there ever was a winter Grüner this would be it. "The palate is full of generous, fruity yellow and green pear, set against a backdrop of zesty-fresh grapefruit peel." It might make for the perfect tuna-melt wine. Going, going, going... Gone? $19
PETER SCHANDL 2015 FURMINT
Paul Schandl runs the winery, owned by his family since 1741, together with his wife Elle and with the support of his mother Ursula and his father Peter. Paul has put an emphasis on preserving historical grape varieties such as Furmint and a few others. Furmint is a very old, indigenous white wine grape that ripens extremely late. The late harvest, the high grade of ripeness and the shrinking of the grapes result in concentrated wines with pronounced acidity and strong tannins, perhaps a bit atypical for other white wines from Austria. This wine knocked our socks off. Rich and aromatic with notes of ripe quince and caramelized apples. Pair with roast pork, cheese quiche, or Viennese Schnitzel. $33
CASTELLO DI SELVOLE 2014 CHIANTI CLASSICO DOCG
Guido Busetto and his wife Nobuko Hashimoto, originally from Japan, owns this property in Selvole near Siena with 40 hectares of vines and 10 hectares of olive trees. It was a life-long dream for them to hold property here in Chianti Classico. Selvole is the birthplace of the DOCG and it's no coincidence this was the place they chose to live and work, and they still do, though it is their daughter who runs the winery now. This Chianti Classico is round, smooth, and structured with intense notes of cherries and roasted coffee beans. Like most Chianti, the Selvole is best enjoyed with food; think red meat or pasta dishes, but it makes for a nice "meditation wine" as well. $23
DE CONCILIIS 2015 DONNALUNA AGLIANICO
The De Conciliis Estate is located in the beautiful Paestum region of Campania. They are part of the recent wave of small producers making wines of superior quality in Campania after the market was dominated by just a few large producers for decades. “Our goal is to make wines with personality,” says owner and managing director Bruno. The Donnaluna Aglianico comes from 7-8 vineyards and is fermented and aged in stainless steel. This is a big red with a whopping 15% alc., but it's also somehow easy drinking with lively aromas of violets and licorice and smooth velvety tannins on the tongue. This wine is as suitable for roasted game as it is for pizza. $25
