HAPPY NEW YEAR!!! You might not know this about me, but I ship Eret and Heather. I just wish I new what she looks like 5 years later! Could you do a drawing of Eret and an older Heather? I would like to see JUST ONE fanart of them!
This was only supposed to be a sketch and then I accidentally drew line art *shot*
The thing about these two is that there’s going to be a lot of bickering and snide comments and not-so-subtle vying for mama Astrid and papa Hiccup’s attention before there’s ever any flirting between them. They have a strong “they love me more” sort of thing happening in regards to Hiccup and Astrid, and will constantly find little things to lord over each other–Heather helping Hiccup out in the forge, Eret spars with Astrid, Eret flying with Hiccup for more tips on Skullcrusher, Heather hogging Astrid for half a day going over herbs for the pregnancy… yeah, it goes on and on.
What would happen if astrid was not able to have kids, like if she was infertile. I mean hiccup is going to be chief and he needs to have kids. So would he still marry astrid even if she couldn't have kids?
Read this
Yes, Hiccup would marry Astrid (because he’d likely find out she couldn’t have kids AFTER they were married). He wouldn’t get rid of her afterwards—he actually likes her. Instead, Hiccup would take a second wife or concubine to bear the children. Hell, it might even give Ruffnut an opportunity to re-explore her former interest in him. (Fun fic! Fun fic!)
I don’t think it’d be hard for Hiccup to find someone for that position. I mean, he’s the chief’s son/future chief. It’s basically only going up for Berkian ladies as far as we know. Astrid would have to deal. She'd know she'd have to deal.
Or he would get Camicazi pregnant again and this time she’d allow him to claim the as his legitimate heir. That would work too.
Valka was not the most ideal mother but what kind of grandma would she be? Would she treat her grandkids as a second chance?
As a second chance to be doting and present? Perhaps. I think she would cherish being a part of a family again, and definitely adore her grandbabies. I think she would definitely take the opportunity to influence children how to interact with and respect dragons. Of course, her own son kinda already has that covered… but still. Her knowledge would be invaluable.
Random question that popped into my head that I thought you'd be able to provide an interesting angle on - what do you think would have happened if Hiccup and Astrid had found themselves in the position that Stoick and Valka find themselves in in HTTYD2 - i.e. one of them finding the other after having presumed them dead for years, with the other not having made a deliberate attempt to return?
Oh snap.
Well, my initial thought would be, of course, Hiccup in Valka’s place, Astrid in Stoick’s. Now are you thinking of this happening post HTTYD2 somehow?
Hiccup heads out with Toothless to investigate some disturbance to the southeast of the BA. He puts Astrid in charge.
Berk gets word–weeks later–that something happened. More riders go out to investigate and discover that the situation was worse than anyone let on. There was another volcano-like structure that was starting to emerge–a Death dragon inside–and control the dragons that were living in nearby villages. Hiccup put a stop to it at the source, but paid with his life in the end–so the witnesses say.
His death is mourned back on Berk. Astrid takes over.
But we’ll say Hiccup didn’t die. That he survived, barely, recovered, and before he could return home he learned of another situation not far from where he recovered. He goes there and puts a stop to it–this time he doesn’t lose limbs or conciousness. He’s getting better at killing them.
Hiccup learns the Green Death that ran a war against Berk had siblings/hatchlings/something and they were spread around the BA. After Hiccup himself introduced dragons into human villages and encouraged the integration, he knew people (and dragons) were more at risk than ever if these baby/sibling deaths started controlling them again for war and personal gain.
So Hiccup goes around the BA putting out fires before they can turn into infernos. Keeping a peace that so many don’t realize is threatened… because he’s also seen so many chiefs waiting for a reason to stop the merger of humans and dragons and he doesn’t want to give it to them.
Hiccup does come back to Berk, but he keeps his distance. By the time he makes it back there–after recoveries and battles–the peace throws him off. Berk had moved on from him. Astrid is settled. He sees her smile. He sees a child run out to greet her and it’s impossible for him to discern the age–if it could possibly be his.
Berk is peaceful, Astrid is as peaceful, and, unfortunately, wherever Hiccup goes, dragon trouble follows. There are more Deaths to take out, and that’s what he dedicates himself to doing. Berk is safe, the woman he loved is safe, he’s content to leave it at that and not risk anything.
And then, a few years after that, after Hiccup kills all the Deaths he does find Astrid again. Or she finds him. Maybe with a full beard, working in a smithy in a small sea-side town. Or maybe her son finds him–and they don’t know who each other are at first–and they kind of have an altercation because Hiccup accuses him of not taking proper care of his saddle, and giving his dragon “scale rash”, and Hiccup unintentionally (and gruffly) takes the kid under his wing and shows him a few dragon things… wow, this could be a whole fic. XD
Or maybe it’s Astrid! She’s reported to have been killed in action… well, actually, I do have a drabble that kinda fits that, except Astrid does come home. I have trouble seeing Astrid making/finding excuses not to. She’s the homebody.
If Astrid became pregnant and suffered a miscarriage how do you think she would cope and handle it? How would everyone else react?
I think she’d be shaken. That she’d breathe through it and she’d cry through it and then handle the aftermath in silence once she ran out of tears.
Hiccup would hold her and kiss her and at least know better than to ask if she was okay. Eventually he would, but he’d never bring up the baby. Only her—if she needed anything, if she was in any pain, if she were feeling up to something…
Then I think she’d get irritated the longer Hiccup doted on her--maybe after a few days. It would feel too out of character for him; it would only make her aware of her loss and feel unable to move on.
She’d double up on getting back into shape and proving that she could bounce back from it—from anything. She’d say “women have miscarriages all the time” and show annoyance towards anyone who walked on eggshells around her until she felt a sense of normalcy again.
And eventually normalcy would return… except for some nights, when it was just her and her thoughts. When she’d curl on her side, with her arms hugging her middle, and she’d remember the pain and the wrongness and the stomach-crumpling guilt. Then Hiccup would roll to her back, wrap his arms around her, and he would hold her hand until it passed.
I really love the idea of the Berkians going on with their lives and marrying and doing viking stuff and fighting wars as adults, but I sometimes have a hard time picturing it. One thing I have a hard time seeing is how our two main ladies, Ruffnut especially, would handle pregnancy and children. Would they hate being pregnant? Would they cede shieldmaiden rights temporarily, or even permanently to raise them? Most importantly: do you predict twins for Ruff?
Apparently the shieldmaiden thing was a myth so… XD
But lets say in the Barbaric Archipelagoes--where dragons roam free--they're a thing. And ladies fight-fight-fight--take a break for family/babies because that shit was hella important to all Vikings--and when they recover fight-trainbabies-fight-trainbabies.
For one, I think Astrid would handle it fine. So long as she's got a handle on her life, and things are going her way, yeah, she's all for doing everything the proud Viking way and doing it the best. She gonna be the best shield maiden, have the best babies, raise the best little warriors, and have an OK husband. Haha. She'll adjust fine to being pregnant outside of unforeseen complications.
Second, well my personal headcanon has Ruffnut barren, actually. I'm pretty lost in it too, XD.
It's actually a thing that, on some level, she's almost relieved for it because she doesn't truly want children. She has her own desires and hopes, and she knows they're a bit selfish, but she's a bit selfish and she doesn't want to change. On the other hand, she feels the shame and burden and inadequacy of being unable to have children. Sometimes, if she allows herself, she'll get bitter. She also feels the guilt of being a lesser-functioning wife and that usually just leads to her being angry, so having a husband who can love and assure her would be helpful (even if she'd never ask for assurance). It's a tricky emotional situation.
Also, don't twins skip generations? Wouldn't it be more likely for, say, Tuffnut's grandchildren to be twins?
I dunno, those are my thoughts on it. XD
Has Heather ever joined them in the bedroom then? Since Hiccup is okay with everything it seems.
No, she hasn't. She and Hiccup get along very well, but not like that. She and Astrid are pretty touchy-touchy with each other to the point where they just seem really friendly and comfortable. Hiccup can kinda read more into it but he doesn't really say anything because his wife is happy, and she loves him, and he's not around half the time.
